I've never lost a pet before

One of my five cats, Justine, somehow escaped the house, maybe Friday, maybe Saturday. We don't know. She usually hangs in the basement, doing her own thing, so we didn't immediately notice her absence (guiltguiltguilt). Our next door neighbor thinks she saw Justine on Saturday, but we haven't. Thus far, we've left the shed open - it's raining - ( Read more... )

Yeah, we're super bumming right now. I really hope she wanders back to the yard so I can grab her or that we see her around the neighborhood. I wish it wasn't raining, though, as Tedd's home, and we were going to take Paloma and the EmBot out walking for some kitty recon.

All the cats my family has owned have disappeared for a couple of days at some point in their lives. I think it's just a cat thing -- periodically they get an itch and go scratch it for awhile. Here's hoping yours shows up just like ours always did.

You could post a picture and notice on Craigslist. Maybe someone will see it. When I found a dog in Baltimore I did that and the owner actually saw it while she was in Texas (the dog sitter accidentally let the poodle out). I hope that your cat's chip works.

That's a good idea - we'll definitely do that.

I once had a cat get out when I lived in Hoboken. I walked around the neighborhood so many times looking for her. Finally, I walked into the empty yard next to ours and looked under the shrubs. She was under a bush that was not 10' from our apartment. She couldn't get back in the way she came because of the way it was built, and she didn't know enough about the terrain to realize there was another entrance. And she was too scared to come all the way to the street when I called. Which is a long winded way of saying that maybe she's closer than you think, especially if the weather is bad and she's not used to it. I hope she comes home safe and sound.

That's something we've considered since we have a sort of ravine behind our yard. Easy enough to get out through a hole in the fence or via a neighbor's yard but perhaps not so easy to find the way back in. We've been checking there periodically, and in the neighbor's yards and in the shed and such. She's never gone out for more than a tiny bit accidentally and then we always caught her before she could do much exploring.
