Found a malicious autorun.inf file on one of my harddrives today. Problem? It's my main one, the one that holds all of the BSB and *NSYNC footage and pictures I own. AND I DO MEAN ALL ( Read more... )

Kaspersky is usually the best for a virus that doesn't.go.away. lol

Whatever you do, don't even waste time with Avast, McAfee or AVG.

I'm resigned to getting all my files off the hdd, and then reformatting it and using another uninfected one to store them all. I only have BitDefender, the anti-virus programmes are not my choice as my father buys them. :P

Already tried out Malwarebytes and Spybot to no avail. :( Have also tried a couple of autorun cleaners but those didn't work either. *sigh* In any case I'm close to finishing my file transfers and am going to reformat it soon. Hopefully it works.

Oh no! That sucks! I can't really help with getting rid of it, sorry.

Yeah, you're probably safest just reformatting... that's a pain, I know. Ugh, my laptop caught a virus last year that I just could not get rid of, so I ended up having to do a system restore, which is also a total pain, so I sympathize. Good luck!

One method I've seen that's not too bad is here: http://techreviews.in/how-to-remove-autorun-inf-from-your-system/
(it's the second one) which is just using the start up menu.

You can download a trial version of Kaspersky, I don't know how full the software would be though. But, if you'd like Kaspersky I could probably get you a licence. I have one free with my university, but as I already have a perchased copy it's just going spare. Granted it'll only last till the end of september.

Either way best of luck, I can't remember how many times I've had to reformat my main hard drive before I got a decent anti-virus.
