There used to be a Slayer handbook, but it didn't precisely say that you had to work alone. It was simply that, well, they wanted your, your status kept somewhat under cover.

Buffy, you do realise that, historically, the risk from vampires could be almost the least of the potential dangers?

Uh huh. Was that the same handbook that Kendra got that I didn't?

Yeah, yeah all the demons not just vampires wanted to kill the Slayer. I get that, Giles. I'm just saying that I only lived as long as I did because of you guys.

As far as I could acertain, Kendra was reared by her Watcher. (I can't imagined why he did not come to Sunnydale when she did, but we all have our own methods, past a certain point.) In any case, they must have had ample time to cover any points of difficulty that arose.

However, the fact is that, in many times and places, the Slayer was at more risk from the surrounding society than from the vampires and demons.

Historically, Slayers have been killed by the Inquisition or treated for various mental illnesses. Freudianism led to a considerable casualty rate - perhaps to a greater extent than the more overtly religious beliefs.

Well, I just figured since I had the best Watcher, Kendra's didn't want to compete so they sent her to Sunnydalae on her own.

Are you serious? You mean Slayers in the past weren't killed by big bads but conservative ... okay so there was the time when my mom and Willow's tried to burn us at the stake and if you guys hadn't come probably would have.
