Chapter 1 - Chapter 2 - Chapter 3 - Chapter 4 - Chapter 5 - Chapter 6 - Chapter 7 - Chapter 8

“Mack, I am not having pink daisies in my wedding. Unless you haven’t realised, I am a man!”

“Jensen” And there was the whine. “This is the only chance I am going to get to plan your wedding.”

“What? How about my real wedding?”

“Pssh, this one’s first. And pink daisies go with the table arrangements. Plus Megan agrees!” One of said daisies was thrown at Jensen’s head.
He and Mackenzie were going through some wedding details before Jared and his sister arrived for Sunday dinner. The contracts had been amended, signed and put into action so the wedding was officially on the go. Jared’s aunts were helping out here and there; but the majority of the work was being done by immediate family. Jensen had already bought himself and Jared co-ordinating tuxedos, both the girls had co-ordinating bridesmaid dresses and Jared’s father also had a new suit. The venue was booked; a five star hotel owned by one of Jensen’s business acquaintances, Steve, and the food menu had been agreed upon.

Everything except the cake that is.

“Since when did we have pink table arrangements?” Jensen leafed through the mountain of paper on the floor looking for the table arrangements that he and Jared had agreed on.

And then the door knocked and Mackenzie whizzed to get to it.

“Goddammit.”

Even on wheels she was faster than him.

He could hear the door opening and hear both Mackenzie and Megan’s high-pitched squeals as they welcomed each other. He never did understand girls all that much.

“Hey man.” Jensen looked up to see Jared leaning on the doorway grinning at the mess on the floor. “Looks like you’re really into this wedding stuff.”

“How are you not as stressed as me? Mack has been driving me insane! And then, she’s been up talking to your sister on the phone since forever.”

“This is why I just nod my head and smile when they ask me something.”

“And if they ask for pink daisies?” Jared nodded his head and smiled. “Asshole. We should have introduced them to each other on the wedding day.”

Jensen remembered the first Padalecki-Ackles dinner; Jensen and Mackenzie cleaned the house from top to bottom - read: Mackenzie ordered while Jensen listened- while the cook prepared dinner. Jensen had insisted on something simple but not too simple and finally they settled on steaks, potatoes, vegetables and salad with cheesecake for dessert. When the door opened both girls stood, smiled and said a simple ‘hello’ to each other; while Jensen was surprised that Mackenzie was shy Jared just smirked and pushed his sister into the doorway. Dinner was easy enough, no major fights or embarrassing discussions, but it wasn’t until after dessert that the girls bonded. Jensen and Jared went to watch a game on TV with beers while the girls went for a stroll in the yard and when they came back a few hours later their faces were red, eyes rimmed and watery; best friends ever since.

“Yeah, as if they would have let us get away with that.” Jared sat down on the floor and handed him a beer. “So...”

“The cake? And the table arrangements, which I cannot find!” The last few words was a yell and Jensen swore he could hear the girls’ giggling.

“Last time I heard, it was pink.”

Jensen glared at him. “Not helping Padalecki.”

“Look, the way I see it is this: you might as well let them have their fun.” Jensen huffed in response. “I’m being serious. They will not back down on this kinda stuff. Unless...” He leaned in to whisper. “we elope.”

“You are not eloping! ” Two voices yelled from somewhere in the house.

“I will hunt you down and castrate you! ” Megan added.

Jared smiled. “Like I said, let them do what they want.”

“Fine. But I am not going down without a fight.”

Jensen began shuffling the papers on the floors back into their organised and neat piles, one pile for each aspect of the wedding with a coloured post it note showing whose responsibility it was. Jensen was green, Jared was yellow and the girls had united on pink for themselves.

“Duh.”

The girls came back into the room with their binder detailing the wedding details, they were still discussing something in hushed tones and Jensen had no clue what the hell it was.

“Right.” Megan said loudly.

“Uh oh.” Jared added, earning him a glare from his sister.

“We have decided on a cake!” Mackenzie added with a squee.

“I love how we’re getting married and yet you have chosen the wedding cake.” Jensen added ruefully.

“Well, we did decide the filling Jensen. Apparently,” Jared added pointedly looking at his sister and soon to be sister in law. “We have no choice in the cake decor.”

“See Jensen.” Mackenzie nodded in agreement. “He gets it.”

“Moving on, please.”

“So, you two agreed on vanilla sponge with a chocolate and hazelnut filling. Correct?” Megan waited for Jensen and Jared to nod.

“We decided on a simple white iced five tiered cake, with black icing. Kinda like this.” Mackenzie held out a picture for them to look at.

“I like it.” Jensen looked at Jared questioningly. “What? You don’t?”

“No I do.”

No quicker than they had said those sentences did Megan and Mackenzie let out a high pitched squeal making Jared snort and Jensen sigh.

“Well, I guess we’re all prepared then?”

“Yup.” Jared was starting to look worried again, his eyes were dimming.

“Hey,” Jensen prodded him in the arm. “Three weeks.” Jared nodded. “And we can get Lehne.”

“Sure.”

***

Jared was working out in his gym, his mind was filled with a hurricane of thoughts about his wedding; the venue, the music, what to wear and most importantly what people would be thinking. Anyone with two brain cells in his family knew that before this, him and Jensen didn’t run in the same circles. And he was more than thankful that his Mom wasn’t here…she always wanted Jared to marry someone he loved and while he liked Jensen enough, he sure as hell didn’t love him. He hoped that getting married would sort some of the issues with Lehne out, leaving him with nothing to stand on. He was counting his fiftieth push up when his house phone rang, he quickly pulled out his headphones and jogged out to the lounge.

“Hello?” No answer. “Hello?”

Jared pulled the phone away from his ear and stared at the screen, the number was not available. He put it back to his ear again.

“Hello? Anyone there.”

“Jared, meet me at the café near your place in half an hour.”

And then it was the dialing tone.

Half an hour later he was sat freshly showered at a table near the windows drinking a coffee when a shadow fell over his table.

“Jared.”

Jared looked up to see the man from Jensen’s office, he remembered him exiting when he went to drop off the contract and talk to Jensen. But he couldn’t place the name or relationship to Jensen. The stranger sat down opposite Jared and a few seconds later a waitress came over to take his order.

“Who are you?”

His mouth curved into a smile, never reaching his eyes. “My name’s Chris. I work with Jensen.”

“You’re the other half of Ackane?”

“Correct.” The coffee arrived and Chris took a quick sip. “Apparently, you and I need to have a chat.”

“What about? I didn’t think-“

“Of course you didn’t think. When do people like you ever think.”

“People like me?” Jared was starting to get pissed off now. “What the hell does that mean?”

“Young. Naïve. Inexperienced.” Chris made the last word sound close to a leer; Jared really didn’t want to think about it.

“I run my business fine.”

“Ah yes, Padacorp. I know the business arrangement we have going now you and Jensen are to be wed.” He hummed quietly. “But I need you to do me a favour.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, you know that Jensen and I deal with high end clients.” Jared nodded slowly, not really sure where this conversation was going. “I need your bank details.”

“What? ”

“I have some loose change that needs putting away for a while, until I can get myself sorted out.”

Now Jared was just confused. “Why don’t you ask Jensen?”

Chris laughed outright at that. “Man, you really are dim. I’m hiding the money from Jensen. Why the fuck would I ask him about it?”

“Why would I help you?”

Chris sat back in his chair, hands spread wide. “A few reasons. One; I know where you live, two; I know where your charming sister lives, three; I know where Lehne is too. I’m sure you can do the math.”

Jared saw red, he leaned over and grasped the lapels of Chris’ jacket and hauled him forward. “Are you threatening me?”

Chris smirked. “While I’m sure Jensen appreciates the he-man routine, I myself find it over bearing.” He glanced down at Jared hand until he reluctantly let go. “Now, that wasn’t a threat Jared. That was a fact. Make of it what you will.”

“And if I refuse. Then what?”

“Then that lovely little equation in your head? Will be solved by yours truly.”

“What do I do?”

“Wait for further instruction. After your wedding I’ll see you again.”

Chris got up to leave; placing some cash on the table he held his hand out for Jared.

“What?” Jared eyed it doubtfully. “I’m supposed to shake on it?”

“A good businessman always does.” And he waited.

Jared carefully placed his hand in Chris’ for a quick shake, not prepared for him to apply painful pressure on his hand and yanked forward. Chris leaned down and whispered into this ear.

“I shouldn’t need to tell you to keep Jensen in the dark about this.” Jared nodded quickly, his hand felt like it was on fire. “Good. See you soon Jared.” And he winked and left.
