Though Russell is said to be the oldest bloodsucker in the Americas, O'Hare noted his character hasn't exactly conquered the whole wisdom thing
I've been thinking about this lately and how there's such an interesting contrast between Russell and Godric, who was 1,000 years younger but wiser. I wonder if we'll ever find out why Russell's got this obsession with making vamps the "master race" (if there can ever be an explanation for such a thing--I mean beyond his whole, "Humans are destroying the planet" thing, which, wow, what an insight. *eyeroll*).
He's a Druid. I think he cares more for nature than Godric ever did. Unfortunately, the blood made him bitter over the years, not a green freak who wears flowers in his hair.
He's more like an angry, cranky, Druid who still likes making human sacrifices, 3000 years down the line. To be honest, I think Russell speaks a lot of wisdom - just his wisdom with people and his manipulation of them makes him very poor in that respect.
Russell's wisdom about the environment, earth, all that jazz is probably unparalleled. What's rather amusing is how he is not a perfect zen creature, yet Druids were the ones who were the wisemen among the Celts - Russell was the one settling disputes and making important decisions for his people.
This isn't something that's been revealed on the show, correct (maybe I missed it)? I don't remember it from the book, but, then, I have a crap memory (and I always separate the show from the books anyway). I'm just curious where this info about Russell being a druid is coming from (hope it's not a spoiler). And we don't know anything about Godric's concern for the environment in particular one way or the other.
Even if Russell is a druid and is wise about the environment, his tactics in trying to protect it from mankind are unwise and, frankly, don't truly seem motivated by those concerns. Right now he's concerned with revenge over his partner, Talbot, who he didn't treat very well anyway, IMO.
Delightful interview as always! It will be interesting to see how he does the mourning this week. Me thinks we'll still see an unpredictable amount of bloodshed in the mix.
I really love what has happened with Russell this season. His character's been on a rollercoaster ride.
