From the "Older but not Wiser" Dept.

Last day in Victoria before heading back to Vancouver.

I plan on, after my laundry's done, going into the downtown for some lunch and wandering with my camera. It's been so nice (I've said that a lot lately) out here.

I climbed Mount Douglas yesterday, went down to the inner harbour, had lunch at The Swans Hotel, played soccer for about an hour ( Read more... )

beer, victoria, vacation

Friendlier than most Toronto women.

And I'm having difficulty locating sand in Victoria - I have to find a beach because all the stuff down around the harbour area and such is a rocky shoreline :(

You need to pop over to Schooners! Their brews are excellent!

Look for a sign on the wall leading up to the second floor involving astronauts and I'll tell ya the story....

do you need a ride from downtown tomorrow?

Ya.. a ride would be cool :)

I'll be staying in Richmond (on Westminster) tonight and tomorrow night.

I'll probably take the sky train into downtown - the office is at 1075 West Georgia - and then I'll grab the ride with you back out to Metrotown (which I've heard has been recently renovated etc. etc.):-)

you don't want to go out west .. too expensive :P

Victoria housing prices are similar to Toronto. The city is small enough that gas is a non-issue and the only thing is more expensive is groceries - but not by a huge amount.

It's Vancouver/West Van/North Van that's pricey. :)

Victoria is even SLOWER paced than Vancouver.. hehe.. must be all the "herb" that people tend to ingest out here.

I found housing prices in Vancouver (well, Port Moody, to be accurate) to be a little more cheap than TO. Not having to shovel snow was a plus, too.
If you were to make the big move -- and yes, I really do think you should consider it -- I'd suggest Vancouver over Victoria, unless you're feeling compelled to slow down as you approach your golden years. (This from a guy who's what....five months younger than you?)
Victoria is slower because there are more retirees per capita than just about anywhere else in the country. It is, after all, home to the "newly wed and nearly dead." I think you'd go nuts after a while. Nice place to visit and all that.
