Dumbledore's funeral was a blur of images and emotions. It might have overwhelmed him, if not for the anchor of Dora's hand in his, holding tight the entire time. Escorting the children to the train had been almost as difficult; Harry, Hermione and Ron were all but glued together, and he knew that this was the last time he'd watch James's son ( Read more... )

It had been a long, tiring and emotionally draining day for everyone, and Tonks was just glad it was over and she could (at least try) to relax, for a few hours. At least until the next attack, the next Order meeting, the next...

Well, it was far from over, but Tonks had been learning to live for the moment.

His smile turned genuine at her suggestion. Her flat was a place he hadn't been since before the breakup, and held only good memories for him. Plus it meant not having to be in the public eye anymore, not even if those eyes were muggle. He could let down his guard in her flat, after the wards went up.

"Is that place by your flat still open?"

"Mm-hm, it is indeed, and still making the best curry in London."

They got back to the rooms she'd been sharing with him the past few days, and Tonks was as glad to be going home as he was. Hogwarts would always have a special place in her heart, but with Dumbledore gone, it felt much colder, and emptier, than ever.

"We've already said our good-byes, for now. No reason to stay any longer."

"It's been ages since I've had a good curry. Even if I'd had the opportunity, it reminded me too much of you. First post moon dinner you brought me, back at Grimmauld Place." He gathered his things quickly, but lingered for one last look. This had been the first place in his post war life that had felt like home, and in the last few days more precious memories had been added to it. Impractical and unrealistic as it was, he wished they didn't have to leave.

"Let's go." He threaded his fingers though hers, and walked though the empty halls and out the front door, to the front gates where they could Apparate.
