"Is that you, Remus?" He was barely in the door when the voice called out to him. How did Molly Weasley do that? Of the dozens of people who might be entering #12 how could she possibly know that it was him ( Read more... )

Oh, Merlin, I hope that's not Charlie, Tonks thought to herself when she heard the knock on her door. They'd had fun that night last week but she was decidedly not in the mood for more right now.

What was more, she wasn't exactly looking her best. Sweatpants and an old, faded Weird Sisters tee-shirt, both of which were too big for her. Her hair was its natural mousy brown, and even her eyes were grey, the same colour as Sirius'; she usually changed them to hazel or blue.

One could even see the top of a scar near her right collarbone that she usually concealed.

So her embarrassment was great when she opened the door to find Remus Lupin standing there. "Bloody hell!" she said, her voice sounding a little strange since she was all stuffed up with a cold.

"I mean, uh. Hi, Remus. Sorry I'm such a mess... And so's my flat, but come on in anyway." Too late to do anything now. Besides, he appeared to have food.

Remus only raised one eyebrow at the unexpected greeting. "It's good to see you too."

He followed her into the flat, not bothered by the mess. He'd seen worse. He'd lived in worse, especially back at Hogwarts when he, James, Sirius and Peter had all shared a room.

"Molly sent you soup. She said you were a little under the weather." Which was quite obvious, even without hearing her stuffed up voice. He set it down on the closest flat surface, and immediately regretted doing so as it now left him with two empty hands and nothing to do but stand in the middle of the room and feel slightly uncomfortable.

"Listen, about the other night..." She turned a little, and he noticed the raised scar on her collar bone, accented by a shadow. Without knowing what he was doing he reached out and brushed the pad of his thumb against it. "What's this from?"

"I-"

She sort of froze when he touched her. It wasn't exactly a handshake, or even a hug. Her breath caught in her throat for a moment.

"Long time ago. I was, oh, nine? I fell out of a tree, got the wrong end of a branch right there."

She paused, her already-foggy brain still trying to process his touch on her skin. "Nice of Molly. To send the soup, I mean."

He realizes almost immediately what he did, and pulls his hand back, placing it in the pocket of his cardigan. He can see her, as a child, scampering up trees. Andromeda must have had her hands full with her.

"She'd want you to eat it while it's still hot." He aimed in the direction of the kitchen, and muttered 'accio bowls.' He caught both bowls easily, and the spoons he summoned as well. "Where do you want to sit?"

It's easier to deal with the practical then think about the warmth of her skin or his dim memories of the other night. he still needs to apologize for those.
