This is really impressive to watch unfold--I've only ever tried coptic binding before, and this looks far more complicated. I can't wait to see the rest of it!

Ooo, I want to try coptic binding next. I think the exposed sewn books are beautiful. So far anyways, this isn't that complicated. Sewing the first 2 or 3 signatures required some patient fumbling but it got easier as it went on.

I went to a local bookbinding class ages ago and made something similar but far less complicated (The covers were made with fabric we marbleized during class.)

Yours looks awesome and I'm very impressed. May I ask what's printed on it? (We were making blank books for journals)

I would love to be in a class doing this but the one bookbinding workshop I went to was ... not so productive. So far, the DVD I'm using is working out.

And thank you! The book I'm making is a collection of stories by a friend. It's not all of her stories just some of my favorite. I'm trying to surprise her which is why I'm keeping mum about who it is.

OK, this is fascinating! Do you mind if I ask how long it took, this section I mean, from start to finish? You give me hope I might actually want to try this!

I'm so glad you asked this because one of the things I found myself doing was trying to rush through it. From puncturing the stations to sewing it, it was only about 30 minutes. I was trying to be diligent about not pulling the thread too tight and pinching the sections or too loose. I've seen YouTube videos where they are much faster.

And yes! I really do highly recommend that you give it a try. I'm not the most crafty-capable person so its amazing to see it actually taking shape.

Ooh! *claps* That looks incredibly complicated to me, and the end product is so neat!

lol! I just glued up the spine last night so some of the neatness is gone but I'm hoping I can bring the end product around to neatness again. :) Aside from that though, it's not that complicated. I am not a craft person but it actually seems to be moving forward much to my surprise.
