FandomNotes: SPN 5x18: Point of No Return

Apr 19, 2010 06:23

I just wanted to say Hi but I didn't want to show up empty handed.  SPN had a kick-ass 100th episode so I tried to punch up the notes I've been taking and added some images.  For the most part it's just me thinking out loud and trying to keep track of everything.  The numbers in front of the text is the time where the scene occurred according to an ( Read more... )

OMG it's you!

More later when I have time to squee with you about many points - and how much I love you for that paragraph about the fight/beatdown? For now let me express my happiness for having seen you!

Here I am. ♥

I know I'm not the only one who wants to read Dean's letter in it's entirety.
And if you still want you can go here where, with a lot of help, we deciphered almost of all of it.

It's manipulative and being used to shut Dean up.
I tend to agree. I'm not fan of Bobby's big outburst to be honest (while I really liked what he did over the radio in Abandon All Hope), although Dean meant for his words to Bobby to hurt because we know that he thinks, and has regard for Bobby as a surrogate father. I just wish for more from Bobby's end of the bargain, you know, instead of these big scenes. Less telling and more showing, maybe.

In fact, I think Castiel is woefully mis-stating his case and hiding behind indignation so that his fear of losing Dean doesn't show as much as it usually does.I agree so very much. I found so beautiful how Castiel showed his fear. He hasn't taken a position in regard to the Michael's plan, not clearly anyway, and that little detail shows how much focused on Dean as a person he is. I just remembered ( ... )

Hi sweety, I missed you *crushes you*!

I'm glad you enjoyed that ep as much as I did. Actually, it's been a long time since I've enjoyed a SPN-episode that much. I'm glad that the brothers are back on track. And I hope they get Cas back soon, too. Boy, he sure was sulking during that episode.

People keep saying how this episode was a nod to all the slashers out there, but they really made a few little things more obvious than usual. No need to change that much, really.

::smish!::

I know I'm giving myself away as a Cas gal (as if I haven't already) but his interactions with Sam and Dean never fail to grab my attention and this episode was packed with those interactions. :) I loved 99 Problems almost entirely for the scenes with Sam trying to deal with a drunk Cas. Those two don't have the same flinty love story going on that Dean and Cas do but it was great watching Sam act like a big brother to a being who's untold years older than him and apparently having trouble sitting up. Sweet ...

... a nod to all the slashers out there, but they really made a few little things more obvious than usual.

::big grin:: No kidding! Cas, in particular, has been pretty up front about what and who motivates him but it was great to see Dean openly respond to it even if he's still hiding behind humor.

I'm not into SPN (despite Cas and the undeniable Cas/Dean moments)but how GOOD it is to "see" you again *hugs you*

::big hug:: So good to hear from you, too!

If you ever decide you need to watch some SPN - pick this one. It's a lot like Rome in that you don't have to look for the slash you have to watch out for it so that you don't trip. ::nods::

Hey you! I've missed you and your picspams!

Great point about Sam being Adam's big brother. He was actually everyone's big brother in this ep--without Dean, he got elected leader, and handled it with a maturity that impressed me. And it worked! He brought back our old Dean!

Bobby calls them boys a whole lot, but I think it bugs me more in fanfic, where he and everyone else _always_ call them that. I think it would have been more a sign of respect between equals if Bobby had called him by name instead, now that you mention it. Bobby really only bugs me when he starts freaking out; he can be a little shrill.

I missed you, too! I've been following the show but it's been kind of a dreary experience without sharing it with other fans.

Sam's been a big brother to the lot of them lately. In 99 Problems he was doing a pretty good job of handling a very drunk and mouthy Cas. I think he's been capable of it for a long time but always being the baby brother seemed to frustrate his efforts. That said, it was sweet to hear him tell Dean that he believes in him because he's his big brother and there's Sam and even though he's sitting down he's just HUGE! but he's still Dean's baby brother.

The scene where Bobby quietly asked after Dean and then Sam was a really welcome change of pace but it doesn't happen often enough for my taste. I think I reached my tipping point with the yelling in Good God, Y'all when Bobby was in the hospital and everything he said ended in an exclamation point: "Get healing!" "Lay hands!" "Say what?!" I feel bad sometimes because I get the feeling that I'm suppose to adore him and I just don't. Not yet anyways.

To be honest, I think Bobby was at his best in Devil's Trap, way back. And a few scattered instances of bad-assery throughout (Born Under a Bad Sign, for instance). I like him a little more gruff than cuddly.

I feel bad sometimes because I get the feeling that I'm suppose to adore him and I just don't. Not yet anyways.

I feel that way about a lot of characters. Sorry to say it, but Ellen is one of them. Jo grew on me, though, so maybe it's possible to come to like those fandom-wide favorites. :)
