Have you seen David Brin's "The Transparent Society"? In it he argues that pervasive surveillance is inevitable. The march of miniaturization is such that at some point it'll be to easy to build small drones that would be virtually indistinguishable from your typical insect.

He argued that as a result the best option is to try for universal transparency, where everyone can watch everyone else--especially anyone with some actual power.

Once you surrender anonymity it becomes much easier to block spam.

true but that's going to take the next version of the internet for that to happen, also once anonymity is lost, there are also prices to that utopia. We saw this in the net freedom act, once we know where packets are coming from and who they belong too, they can be routed to different 'classes' of networks, e.g. the fee based premium AT&T user versus the low end Ukranian User...who has to wait forever to get their request filled.
