I chopped up some ginger last night put in an huge pot and made it into a broth. First time using it plain, very tasty and nothing in it chemical or calories to speak of. I was able to feel the 'warming effect'. Which is great as I'm normally cold, and fasting (day8) makes it more so. I've been making selzters for awhile, and after trying out home ( Read more... )

well technically I'm juice fasting, so 250-500 calories a day. More often towards the bottom end of the range. For optimal health reasons.

I've made my own root beer, but it failed to be fabulous because I didn't have bottles that sealed tightly enough. Since then, I bought some resealable glass bottles...but haven't made any root beer.

I think you've inspired me. Especially with the ginger ale. Yum! Thanks!

I may have some for the game day. It's pretty simple to make and doesn't take too long so I'll make a few bottles.

There's this ginger ale one can buy at Trader Joe's that is fabulous. . . as a fallen off the handcart mormon, I can tell you that diet rootbeer can be made, one simply uses dry ice to carbonate it.

I dont think the 'no-sugar' version will work, because the yeast needs something to eat. Teri (one of my roomates) and I discussed our own versions, and we are making a 1/2 honey + 1/2 stevia version, a maple sugar version, and a raw sugar version. I'll let you know if any turn out well.

the co2 generator would be the bottle with the sugar, the ginger as far as I can tell doens't taste that much different fermenetd or not.

Someone suggested I use dry ice for carbonation which seems simplier if less mad scientist.

the honey and stevia will be a good combination tastewise, stevia doesn't have the texture and the sweetness hits a different times, a little real sugar can make it more convincing.
