Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows

OK, I have now read the last Harry Potter book: Harry Potter and the Deathly HallowsI expected not to like it much, given the things I'd heard about it being dark, and JKR killing off characters, etc. It was at least decent, and possibly good. I've heard people say that Dumbledore was pushing Harry to suicide, but that's not really the case. ( Read more... )

True. The introduction of the DH was horribly badly managed. With six previous books to build on, we should already have had some inkling of their existence. At the very least, if "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" really were well known child's stories in the Wizarding community, Ron or Ginny or someone could have dropped a reference to wizard nursery rhymes in one of the earlier books. That way, when old Beedle turned out to be so useful, there would have been some kind of prior connection to build upon rather than just dumping all of that into the story at the eleventh hour. It hurt the story a bit for me because it threw the pacing off. Still, while the whole HP death bit was weird as heck, it was logical enough that it didn't make me wince too much. And the fight at Hogwarts was crazy good fun :)
