Title: Couldn't Ask For More Fandom: Battlestar Galactica 2003 - How to live and love 'verse Characters: Dee, Helo, Gaeta Wordcount: ~280 words Summary: "Mind telling me why you call in sick for Hot Dog now?" AN: For lls-mutant.
I was so pleased that I was able to set this in the HTLAL 'verse. Your two prompts from it are amongst the ones I'm gonna have to postpone until I'm not sick anymore, so at least I could offer this. It's great that you enjoyed it. Thanks. :)
I meant to comment on this earlier, but it has been CRAZY here. I am so sorry! But this was wonderful and lovely, and I love this story so much that I'm delighted to see an outtake from it. (Any time you write outtakes from this, it makes me so happy :) )
I think what I love about this most is how practical Dee is in it. It's so in character for her, to approach Felix crying in the head like it's a logistical problem - focusing on getting the best man for the job at hand and on making it possible for Brendan to get the time off to help Felix.
There's something sad and touching and totally right about the way Dee refuses to talk about Felix's business, even though they both know very well what's going on. And the last line is just full of guh, and so true to them all at this point. They don't feel they have to right to expect anything more. :(
This is one of the vague notions I've always had about the backstory of HTLAL - that Dee would have taken care of it when Brendan was too busy with Felix to show up for duty. Because he would have forgotten, and she never would. They're two sides of a coin in that way. So Dee had no idea what to do with Felix when she found him crying, but she still went and did the thing that she could do. Kind of my answer to the supposition that is often made in the Gaeta fandom that there are all these people - Dee, Helo - who should have helped Felix. Except they all have their own problems and other people in their lives who they're closer too, and in Dee's case, she's not the type on top of it.
