Can anyone tell me why...

Why do most men's blue jeans go from size 36 waist to 40, skipping the 38s? And why is 40x30 the only 40 waist that most of the jeans are made in? Is it just that if you're over 5'10" you're automatically thin? Or at least sorta in shape ( Read more... )

I don't know the answer to that. If you figure it out, try to work out women's sizing next. And ugh... thanks for reminding me I need to go try on jeans. My current favorites are no longer fitting... which is good news. Except it means I need to go jean shopping. In Arkansas. Shudder.

At some point in the past I posted a link on this blog about womens' jeans and a website that a couple of my friends had found. It asks you questions about different brands and sizes and how they fit in different places and then gives you your sizes in different brands and tells you which ones should flatter your shape so you can order online. If I can locate that again I'll send it your way.

You can always try shopping at Casual Male, they carry tall sizes. I don't know if there is one near you, but that is where I go when I need somethign for my father (he is 6 foot 4). At least you can try on the different stuff and see what fits best.

I've been a 38 waist for a few years now and haven't had much problem finding jeans... although they do seem to be in shorter supply than the other sizes. Perhaps this means that they're one of the more popular sizes?

Well the Levis store online makes 38x30 and 38x32 but nothing taller. They make 36x34 and 40x30. As you get bigger around the waist they also make the longest leg shorter.

It seems that many of the other jeans makers use Levis sizing. I found what I was looking for in the designer jeans makers with little difficulty online, but it was tough to want to spend $150 or more on a single pair of jeans that I've never even tried on.

So instead I bought a 40x34 from a designer jean place for $55 that they were closing out the size on. I'll be fine for the next few weeks until I get myself back to where I should be.

I guess there's something to be said for cheap Old Navy jeans and whatever they sell at Kohl's. I've had few problems finding my size (38x34) there. I can't even imagine spending $150 for a pair of jeans, whether I've tried them on or not!
