What exactly do you consider as a minimalistic icon? I've seen a few different definitions around, that's why I'm asking =P
Is it an icon that uses almost no textures and doesn't alter the original cap very much, or icon that "looks" simple, even though it might use a lot of textures and alter the original coloring drastically (for instance, a blue monochrome icon)?
Quite honestly, any and all of the interpretations you've mentioned I believe can be considered minimalistic. I think you hit the nail on the head with the when you mentioned the icon that "looks" simple, even though it may use textures (in a way that isn't obvious) or monochrome colouring.
