Well it's finally happened, the truck wouldn't start Sunday morning when we, LOML and I) were about to leave for church even though the block heater was plugged in. Warming is already happening, I expect that I'll be able to effect the repair as envisioned.

No damage whatsoever, the block heater is an attachment that fits into the block through an aperture and is held in place with a couple of screws. On the onside of the attachment is a small heating coil which is what keeps the oil in a liquid state. Imagine starting an engine in a vat of Jello, that's what the motor components have to deal with in starting with an unheated oil pan.
