Book Review: The Chronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian by C.S. Lewis

I have this thing... a complex, if you will, where if I see the film adaptation of a book, I have to read the book as well. (When it comes to seeing shows based on books, I'm a little less rigorous, but even so, I like to see/read things in as many different media as possible. I have read The 39 Steps, seen the play and watched the Hitchcock ( Read more... )

I read the Chronicles of Narnia for the first time when I was about nine, and have reread them all a couple of times (but it's been at least three years since I've read them) so it's interesting to see what someone, especially an adult, thinks of them when reading them for the first time.

I think all of the points you mentioned I never saw when I was a child but since reading them again when older I see the more problematic stuff, which in a way is a little upsetting as I loved these books as a child.

I prefer the Pevensie books too, although I do love The Magican's Nephew. I think I actually prefered the Prince Caspian film to the book (from what I can remember of the book anyway) as Caspian actually got to save the day, and Lucy and Edmund did a lot more. Saying that it's been ages since I've seen the film so I may be talking nonsense :P

I'm still yet to see Caspian/Dawn Treader, but now I feel like I can as I've actually read them. Yay \o/.

As a kid I was too busy reading Winnie the Pooh, Animal Ark and Harry Potter. Now, I'll just read anything, regardless of age demographic. I just like... books. And writing. But the two are always interrelated in my head.

Yeah, and I also totally get the problem with seeing issues in stuff you love(d) as a kid, It's... unsettling.

The Magician's Nephew was sweet. It felt much more like a children's book than the other books. I thought the girl was a complete drip though!

I still haven't watched Voyage of the Dawn Treader, but I know what you mean about reading books before seeing the films - I nearly almost do that too.

Oh my God! I LOVED the Animal Ark books! They were pretty much all I read when growing up, did you know that Lucy Daniels was a pseudonym? That suprised me when I found out a few years ago.

Hee. I'm glad I'm not the only one with that idiosyncrasy!

No, I didn't know that. Wow, that's surprised me. Of course it doesn't matter either way. The Animal Ark books remained awesome. I was constantly trying to think of potential titles for Animal Ark books as a kid. Heh.
