Ianto needs to get out of his flat. Normally its fine, but today it just feels empty and he can't shake his feelings of loneliness. He can't go over to Jack's, because James is always there. So he's running in the Nexus, pushing himself.

There are reasons why Jono gets out of his own world, too. Most of them have to do with the absolutely shitty situation there. Another part of it is that there's just too many people in too small a space and it does his head in something awful. So he's dragged out his favorite acoustic guitar and one of the good chairs that the Nexus provides to work on his music. Which explains the sound of guitar in this corner of the Nexus.

Ianto notices the music, slowing slightly as he nears. He's too much of a music lover, not to stop and listen for a bit.

And the player is pretty damned good. It's not anything that Ianto would recognize because Jono's improvising on the spot, but the fingering is challenging and it flows well. Along with it is a soft, almost humming sound, though it's difficult to tell where that comes from.

Ianto chooses to stay close and listen while he cools down, before stretching out some more. He's always admired guitarists.

The song slowly drifts into something more recognizable. Clapton's Layla. Once that finishes, he glances up and nods. Hullo there.

Ianto's eyebrow rises, slightly at the mental touch. "Hi," Ianto says hesitantly. "Hope you don't mind me listening, you're very good."

Wouldn' be playin' out in the open if I minded. Jono's accent is mostly London, by way of Bow Bells, though it's been softened a bit by his time in the States. Thanks fer the compliment. I don' get t' play so much as I used to these days.

"That's a shame," Ianto says. before rolling his eyes, "But then I mostly listen, don't really play anything."

Jono leans forward slightly, tilting his head. Why not?

"Parents made me take piano when I was young and now I don't own one." Ianto shrugs, he never really wanted to learn anyway and begged for guitar lessons.

He catches a little of that, even though he's trying hard not to listen to Ianto's thoughts. Me parents didn' even pay fer lessons fer me. Taught meself, mainly. Got a few lessons later on in school, but not much I didn' already know.

"I was going to get lessons, but something came up and I needed the money for that." Ianto says, thinking of Lisa.

And that he definitely didn't need to know. Jono subtly blocked himself from getting anything out of Ianto's head without impeding conversation. Too bad. Used t' teach some of the students at me school, back when I was teachin' music.

"Yeah?" Ianto asks, curious, because he needs something to do on Mondays now. He'll need to sit down and do the budget, but maybe... "How much did you charge?"

While I was teachin'? Nothin'. Mos' of the kids what were at the school didn' have a lot of dosh t' toss 'round. He shrugs, leaning slightly onto the guitar. Though carefully, since he didn't want to damage it. Reckon if you want lessons, we could talk 'bout it.

"I do, I just have a lot of bills," Ianto admits. Lisa's medical expenses were horrible and he's been slowly working on paying them off.

Jono nods. Don' worry 'bout it, then. He had plenty of money, after all. Yer probably gonna need t' get yer own guitar eventually, anyway, but I could restring one of me old ones fer you. If yer roight handed, at least.

"I have one," Ianto says, "Had it for years, tried teaching myself to play a while back, just never worked out." He shakes his head, "That doesn't seem right, not paying you."

Then we can talk 'bout it later. Or we talk 'bout findin' some other method of payment. Jono shrugs again. Like I said, I ain't worried 'bout it. 'Sides, I like teachin'.

Ianto manages a smile, "You sure?"

Jono nods, offering his hand. Name's Jono. Jono Starsmore.

"Ianto Jones," he says, shaking Jono's hand.

He didn't bother saying that he was pretty certain that was the guy's name. He had to know about alternates by now. Glad t' meetcha. So, when d' you wanna do this?

"Um," Ianto hesitates, because he's not sure and despite everything that is going on, he still thinks of Mondays as Jack time. He has to remind himself that its over and done, Jack spends his Mondays with James now and doesn't have time for him anymore. "Mondays?"

He nods again. Might take some workin' t' figure out differences in our world's times. What's Monday fer me might not be fer you.

"Today is Monday," Ianto says. "So a week from today?"

He works through that himself, then nods. Aye. Can do that easy enough.
5:49 PM

"Really?" Ianto smiles, "That's great, wonderful. Thank you!"

Jono laughs softly, the corners of his eyes turning upwards. Yer welcome, mate. Yer likely t' be cursin' me 'fore we're done.

"Maybe"

Ianto agrees with a slight chuckle.
