My tech 1200`s and (as of this writing) Technics EX championship mixer (that replaced my just-a-bit-too-vintage 06 vestax)are the only real prized posession that i own, I guess with the exception of a small army or pre-amps, midi surface and Korg SKmk2 sampler/sequencer that I absolutely insist on using to make beats over modern computer programs ( Read more... )

If turntables are lightsabres, then serato might be the dark side of the force.

HOWEVER: the dark side might also be completely radical.

I think a Serato setup is a totally sensible middle ground in terms of capitulation, and if we are ruggedly honest with one another, the only thing it eliminates is the one thing you're uncomfortable with: the collection. Although it has a few extraneous bells and whistles that you are free to never bother using, when you DJ with serato you are essentially still spinning wax on turntables, and all of your expertise still applies.

Are you and Fester LJ friends? son_of_30000ft is his - you should talk to him about it, he made the switch not long ago.

Dude treat yourself to Serato no questions asked. There will be no regrets with that decision.

it has had no draw backs really for me, I'm preserving my vinyl, I don't have to lug shit around anymore, I play MUCH more diverse playlist when I spin, I have been way more encouraged to learn complex juggling because of the ease of marking and cuing tracks, the visual wav form will improve you beat matching, the ability to personalize files and add your own stuff. There's now Midi triggering which I use my midi keyboard/mpc pad to do live chops with etc etc etc. It's endless fun and really has blown the lid wide open on DJing.
