Now I'm wondering if the T'Pring incident was what Pike was referring to or if there's something else. I pretty much love everything about this. I'm as enchanted with the way Spock interacts with people as I have been throughout this whole story. But that last bit, that glimpse into his past, the man he used to be, sharp, impatient, fiercely proud, deaf to logic (or very selective about it), and practically openly emotional -- wow, that was quite a journey. I'm still not sure about exactly what happened, and I can barely wait to find out. Suspense for the win. :D

I'm so glad Spock's past emotionality sits well with you. I always had a feeling that I wanted to take that sense from STXI that this new Spock is more moved by the feelings he suppresses than we see in his TOS counterpart, as though all one has to do is scratch the surface to find quite a lot going on.

In my mind, it was the decision to join EPAS, the influence of Pike as a DivCO and a Point Two, plus the years of experience he's gained living surrounded by emotional humans that finally gave LNSB Spock a benchmark with regards to his inner self. I don't think he's quite accepted that the Vulcan ideal is just that - an ideal, but I think he's aware of it at his current age.

There's a bitter kind of irony for me in knowing that the very person who brings out the best in Spock also brings out some of the deepest, strongest emotions he has; that person being Jim, of course.

And clearly, I've spent too long thinking about all this, lol!
