Title: Coming Home
Pairing: Shige x Sho

Notes: Fluff. Set while Sho's in China for the Olympics.
Summary: Sho misses home, because that’s where Kato Shigeaki is.
Coming Home
It never feels quite right, when Sho finds himself in a hotel room all alone because of work, but this time feels even worse. It just shouldn’t be like this. Sho shouldn’t feel like curling up into a ball and phoning home the moment he gets to Beijing, because really, he’s one lucky guy. It’s only the 2008 Olympics, after all, and it’s like a dream, being able to report on such momentous events. Besides, Sho’s a big boy now, and surely he can handle some time away from home (it’s not like he’s never done it before).
But it’s different now, because Sho has never been in a relationship like this and that changes everything. When before he couldn’t wait to get home to his mother’s ramen and his father’s gruff pat on the back, now he can’t stop thinking about Shige back home, probably with glasses riding low on the crook of his nose and face buried in textbook upon textbook.
Sho doesn’t want to, but he can’t help but wonder if Shige is thinking about him and missing him in the same painful way that Sho is. He knows it’s stupid because Shige’s probably busy and Koyama is probably taking him out all the time (which he is NOT jealous about, not at all), so it would make sense if Shige wasn’t as forlorn as Sho was.
Thankfully, it takes only three seconds for Sho to get his answer, because then he hears a delightful purururu and it’s Shige’s name flashing on the screen. He flips the phone open as casually as he can, “Hey.”
There’s a crackly pause on the end, “Sho?” And Sho’s heart nearly thumps out of his chest when he hears Shige’s desperate tone, just as desperate as the way Sho’s mind races with memories of Shige.
Sho’s voice almost cracks as he lies down and pretends Shige is right there next to him, his musky scented cologne wafting through the air, Shige’s velvety soft hair nuzzling soft against Sho’s skin, “Yes, Shige?”
“Sho,” Shige still sounds achingly broken, “Sho, when are you coming home?”
And Sho knows in that moment that Shige misses him just as much, if not more, and as he cradles the phone close to his ear and whispers sweet nothings back to Shige and promises to be back as soon as he can, he knows that the separation is okay as long as they end up together in the end.
