Title: Shige Love is the Best Kind
Pairing: Shige x EVERYONE (in NEWS, Kanjani8, Arashi and KAT TUN)
Rating: PG to R
Word Count: In total, 3700+ words
Notes: 21 drabbles/ficlets for Shige’s 21 years (20 pairings and one threesome to make them all fit). Characterizations and situations may be somewhat AU. They're not all romantic, and they don't all have plots. Just give it a try, you may be surprised :D
Summary: As a Johnny’s, Shige encounters all sorts of characters throughout his life.
Shige Love is the Best Kind
Taguchi Junnosuke/Kato Shigeaki (186 words)
Shige is taking a shut eye in the Jimusho’s main reception area when he hears a frantic patter of feet and a worried muttering. He opens his eyes to Taguchi, who appears to be searching every nook and cranny for something that must be very important to him.
He yawns loudly and Taguchi looks up, smiling apologetically, “Oh, I’m sorry Kato-kun. I didn’t mean to wake you.”
“Are you looking for something?” Shige asks, sitting up with a stretch.
“Yeah,” Taguchi picks up a potted plant, looks under it, and puts it back down, “I don’t know where my DS went. Have you seen it?”
Shige is about to say no when Taguchi turns around and bends over the seat cushions, his pants creasing tightly over his behind. As Shige enjoys the view, he notices the rectangular form imprinted on Taguchi’s right butt cheek. He smiles, “I think it’s in your back pocket.”
Taguchi pats his backside feverishly and then his face lights up with joy, “Yay! Thank you so much, you’re the best!” And as Taguchi runs off with his DS in tow, Shige laughs.
Murakami Shingo/Kato Shigeaki (180 words)
Rehearsals are in full swing for this year’s countdown, and since last year’s mixing of the groups was a huge success, Johnny decided to do it again. So Shige is stuck memorizing the “Sukiyanen Osaka” chorus when he could be studying the subsets of article fourteen for his test the next day.
He taps the rhythm on his thigh and sings softly to himself, forcing himself to remember, and he is so immersed in his frantic preparation that it takes a couple moments before he registers the Calpis being offered to him.
His eyes widen at who is standing in front of him and he accepts the drink, gulping it down, “Thanks, Murakami-kun.”
“No problem,” Murakami points to the lyrics sheet, “You know the part, ‘Sora ni ukabu taiyou ga?’ Sora niiiii, you need to hold that a little longer, but other than that, you sound good.”
Before Shige can reply, Murakami leaves to give out the rest of the Calpis in his hands, and he realizes, with a sad start, that no one has ever told him that before.
Tegoshi Yuya/Kato Shigeaki (111 words)
Shige will never admit to Tegoshi how much he loves fixing his hair before a big event. He complains and gripes and always gives Tegoshi a hard time, but secretly he loves the silky texture of Tegoshi’s hair as he runs it through his fingertips, relishes the bright smile Tegoshi gives as thanks.
But Shige knows that, despite what Tegoshi says, he can do his hair just fine. Everyone knows that actually, and even though it’s obvious that he can, Tegoshi continues to ask Shige to do his hair, with a hairdryer in hand and wide puppy eyes, and Shige knows that Tegoshi loves it just as much as Shige does.
Aiba Masaki/Kato Shigeaki (172 words)
Shige isn’t sure how it happens, but they are the only two in the room, and just as Shige is about to take a nap, Aiba’s voice pipes up, husky and curious, “Five Pokémon you would bring to the desert island.”
Though Shige knows Aiba can only be talking to him, it still doesn’t make any sense. Aiba’s eyes are round and excited and Shige furrows his brow, “Excuse me?”
“Pokémon. Desert Island,” Aiba bounds to Shige’s side and sits down with a plop, “Surely you’ve played this game. What else does NEWS do to pass the time?”
Shige’s not even sure he can remember any Pokémon besides Pikachu, “I read…usually.”
Aiba rolls his eyes, “LAME.” Shige splutters and there is a pause as Shige analyzes all the Pokémon he can remember, when Aiba interrupts, “Wow. You’re really boring.”
Shige bristles, “I’m not BORING. I’m THINKING.”
“Same thing,” Aiba stands up, “Well, I’m hungry. Let’s go eat something,” and then he walks away, and though Shige doesn’t know why, he follows him.
Kamenashi Kazuya/Kato Shigeaki (218 words)
Kamenashi is grinding his erection into Shige’s thigh and Shige isn’t sure how it happened but he is thankful that the club is dark and that everyone (including the pair) is drunk as hell and unable to recognize them.
They end up in Kamenashi’s apartment and from then on it’s all a blur. There are lips and teeth and Shige can’t tell where he ends and where Kamenashi begins. Kamenashi makes Shige’s toes curl into the sheets and a thrill run up Shige’s spine when he sees Kamenashi lose all control over his body’s reactions, giving in to the pleasure with a loaded sigh.
After the night full of groans and slick sharp movements, there is a sated, heavy silence. Shige’s eyelids start to droop and as he falls asleep, he barely hears Kamenashi’s tired whisper, “Don’t you hate it when girls betray you?”
Shige knows that it’s a rhetorical question, and that he isn’t talking about a girl. “She was too old for you anyway,” he says cautiously.
Kamenashi snaps, “That’s not the point,” but they both know that already. Shige waits for Kamenashi to talk, cry, yell, something, anything, but then Kamenashi tentatively slides his hand into Shige’s. Shige squeezes comfortingly and though no more words are exchanged that night, they fall asleep just like that.
Subaru Shibutani/Kato Shigeaki (124 words)
Shige’s voice gives out with a gurgle and Subaru grimaces, “Okay, if you can’t even sing that note, what CAN you sing?”
Shige scowls, “I sing on a lower register, okay? It’s not my fault we have different ranges. Look, if you don’t want to be here, don’t do it. It’s not like I asked for your help.”
“NO. Ryo bet me a thousand yen that I couldn’t fix you and I need to prove him wrong.” Subaru ignores Shige’s angry gasp, “Now this is how a good B flat sounds like.” And he closes his eyes and starts to sing.
When Subaru opens his eyes a while later, Shige is nowhere to be found, and Subaru sighs, searching his pockets for his wallet.
Nakamaru Yuiichi/Kato Shigeaki (164 words)
Shige stares at the jellyfish plushie in front of him, “And you are giving this to me…why?”
Nakamaru splutters, “Don’t ask questions!” and shoves the obnoxious doll towards Shige’s face so Shige accepts it hesitantly.
“Thanks, Nakamaru-kun. But really. Why?”
Nakamaru mumbles something and shuffles his foot awkwardly, and Shige is beginning to think that he is more awkward than Shige himself (which is bad, because Shige is REALLY awkward), but then Nakamaru squeaks and takes a deep breath.
“I was at the amusement park with Massu yesterday and we were at one of those shooting range things and I won that jellyfish and Massu said you really liked them and I didn’t really need it so I thought you might like it even though it’s kind of ugly but they only had that type of jellyfish so I-“
Shige grabs Nakamaru by the shoulder and squeezes, “Thanks,” he grins with delight, and Nakamaru doesn’t really have anything else to say after that.
Ohno Satoshi/Ninomiya Kazunari/Kato Shigeaki (429 words)
When Ohno tells Shige that he wants to take him out to lunch because Ninomiya dared him to, Shige isn’t exactly impressed. So he turns Ohno down with relative ease, and is a little surprised to see hurt flash across Ohno’s usually blank face.
A week later, Ohno tries again, this time carefully not mentioning Ninomiya, but it isn’t as if Shige’s forgotten. However, he remembers Ohno’s hurt face and something inside him stirs, so he sighs, “We don’t even have anything in common.” He figures that will be enough and the end of that, but a couple days later, an exasperated Ninomiya corners Shige.
“Oh-chan forgot to mention that the reason I dared him was because he wouldn’t have gotten the courage on his own.” Ninomiya rolls his eyes but there is a fond smile on his face, “He’s clueless like that.”
Shige doesn’t understand, “Ohno…actually wants to ask me out?”
Ninomiya shrugs, “It’s the haircut. Ohno likes it because he likes short hair and I like it because it looks like Ohno’s. Plus, it makes you look hot.” Nino pauses a minute and then plows on, “Actually, we both wanted to ask you out but I lost at janken.” Shige stares at Nino, who shakes his head ruefully, “Don’t ask, I’m still bitter.”
At that moment, Ohno comes over with a furrowed brow, “Maou.”
“What?” they both ask.
“Maou,” Ohno repeats, pointing to himself, and then to Shige, “Hokaben. We both played lawyers.”
Shige wonders how he gets himself into these situations, “Yes?”
Then Ohno grins, “So we have something in common.” Shige vaguely remembers their previous conversations and is impressed Ohno took that long to come up with a similarity. “So, now will you go out with me?”
Shige laughs and is about to say yes, but then he notices Ninomiya looking pointedly away, so he takes a deep breath, “Actually, I was thinking maybe the three of us could go do something. I’m free now, if you guys want lunch.”
Ninomiya’s eyes widen before his face splits into a grin, “Cool, let’s go!”
Meanwhile, Ohno splutters and with more passion than Shige has ever seen in Ohno, he tugs Ninomiya by the shirt, “I won. Me. I still have marks from where you bit me, and I am NOT letting them go to waste. You are breaking the sacred rules of janken-“
“Do you want to go or not?” Shige smiles at the pair in amusement, and as they look at each other with identical grins, Shige thinks this will be an interesting lunch.
Yasuda Shota/Kato Shigeaki (159 words)
Shige generally tries not to be obvious and stare at people that absolutely baffle him, but when Yasuda walks into the room with a bright skirt on, Shige can’t help but choke on his soda.
Yasuda doesn’t say anything, though Shige knows that Yasuda must have realized that he was choking because of Yasuda’s choice in clothing. Instead, Yasuda crosses his leg daintily and mutters, “I’m not gay.”
That certainly surprises Shige, perhaps more than Yasuda’s outfit, “I wasn’t going to say that.” But the thought may have popped into his head.
“Sure,” Yasuda deadpans, and Shige notes the tightness in Yasuda’s shoulders and the clenching of his manicured fists. He wonders who else has accused Yasuda in such a manner for him to be so defensive, but before he can ask, Yasuda huffs and walks out of the room angrily.
Though technically, Shige didn’t do anything, he feels like the worst person in the world at that moment.
Ueda Tatsuya/Kato Shigeaki (182 words)
Ueda sips his cocktail, “Why do you go to law school when you’ve already got a lucrative career?”
Shige blinks his eyes drunkenly, “Because I enjoy it. That, and it’s certainly more stable than being a Johnny’s idol.” Ueda nods understandingly and Shige steals the olive from Ueda’s cocktail, “Okay, my turn. Why do you like boxing so much? What’s the appeal?”
Shige is about to pop the olive into his mouth when a tall, bulky man taps Ueda’s shoulder gruffly, “Hey pretty, how about you and I go hit up the dance floor?”
Ueda turns around and calmly punches the man in the jaw. He nearly falls over with a loud cry and rubs his jaw angrily, tears pooling in his eyes from the pain. He winces, “What the hell is wrong with you, you bitch?”
The man stomps away and Ueda continues to sip his drink as if nothing had occurred. After a tense pause, Ueda looks at Shige and smiles, a bit scarily, “That’s my answer.”
“Oh,” Shige gulps, and then he puts the olive back into Ueda’s cocktail.
Matsumoto Jun/Kato Shigeaki (138 words)
As far as Shige can tell, Matsumoto is drunk, or something like it, because the moment he sees Shige walk outside the room, he loses all inhibitions and pounces.
After years of being in Johnny’s, Shige is still not used to getting jumped, but he knows when someone wants in his pants and Matsumoto is certainly doing his best to get him out of his pair.
“You have horrible taste,” Matsumoto mutters as he rips open Shige’s button down shirt with a growl.
Shige gasps as he struggles to remain coherent, “Not-not as bad as yours,” a nip, tug, groan, “At least I look like a man. You just look like a pansy.”
Matsumoto sticks his tongue in Shige’s mouth to shut him up and then they race to see who can take off their clothes faster.
Koyama Keiichiro/Kato Shigeaki (187 words)
Sometimes, when Shige watches Yamashita Shoon pull his weight along with the other Juniors, he feels something heavy sink in his stomach.
One day, Koyama catches Shige staring at Shoon and sits down beside him. He nudges Shige playfully, “What are you thinking about?” Because Shige is always thinking.
It takes a while before Shige responds, his voice quiet and thoughtful, “That could have been me.” He gestures at Shoon, who has stopped at the sight of Hey! Say! JUMP. Shoon looks at Yabu and Hikaru with…something in his eyes, and Shige shakes his head with disgust. “Johnny-san could have split us up with a snap of his fingers. Out of all of KKKity, I was the expendable one. I’m usele-“
“Shut up,” Koyama wraps his arm around Shige’s shoulder and loosely laces their fingers together behind their backs and away from prying eyes, “You know you deserve to be in NEWS, and that he made the right decision. Stop doubting yourself. Stop.”
They both watch as Shoon makes stilted conversation with his newly debuted friends, and Shige curls into Koyama’s embrace with a shaky sigh.
Akanishi Jin/Kato Shigeaki (115 words)
Akanishi lights his cigarette easily, “You know, smoking is really bad for a singer’s voice.”
“As if our fans like us for our voices,” Shige scoffs, leaning forward as Jin lights Shige’s cig. “Thanks. Besides, my voice wasn’t that stellar to begin with. What are a few cigarettes going to do?”
“Potentially give you lung cancer, but we’re young and stupid so we don’t really care,” he exhales deeply, smoke curling around his face like an exquisite frame.
Shige holds the smoke in his mouth and lets the bitter taste saturate his throat, “I’m not stupid,” and he watches their breaths of smoke entangle around each other and linger heavily in the air between them.
Ohkura Tadayoshi/Kato Shigeaki (241 words)
Koyama’s in the bathroom, so even though he really wants to dig in, Shige picks at his Yakitori and waits for him. He stabs the Yakitori a couple of times but then feels a presence in front of him, and when he looks up, he is greeted by Ohkura’s cheerful eyes and bright smile.
To say the least, he’s confused, “Yes?”
Ohkura’s smile turns a little awkward and he scratches the back of his head, “Are you enjoying your meal?” A waiter passes by and Ohkura stops him, “Can you bring some gyoza?” Ohkura turns back to Shige’s incredulous stare and he laughs, “Oh, I should explain, ne? My parents own this restaurant.”
Shige’s jaw drops, “No way, really? That’s awesome.”
It breaks the ice and as they make small talk, Shige notes Ohkura’s brilliant smile and sharp smooth features, and sometimes, when Ohkura laughs, Shige forgets what they were talking about.
Shige is just beginning to wonder if Koyama had died when the gyoza arrives. Ohkura grins, “Eat up, it’s on the house. Hey, I should get going, but I’ll see you around.”
“Yeah, definitely,” and Shige watches Ohkura walk away, lean muscles contorting through his clothing, and Shige tries to blame his hunger for the way heat pools in his stomach.
Just then, Koyama rushes forward, phone in hand. He sits down, oblivious to Shige’s distracted glances, “Sorry, my mom called. She wanted to know-ah. You got gyoza?”
Yamashita Tomohisa/Kato Shigeaki (163 words)
Yamashita looks at Shige with bleary eyes, bright and drunken, “Why don’t people see me when they look at me?”
And he hasn’t been making sense for the past ten minutes, but Shige’s pretty sure he knows what Yamashita is trying to say, “They don’t see any of us at first.”
“Well they should,” Yamashita whines, twirling the glass in his hands anxiously, “I’m not just my face.”
Shige sighs, patting his shoulder gently, “None of us are.”
Yamashita groans loudly at the thought, and then his head collapses in his arms. He mumbles something and Shige strains to hear it, “I’m really not stupid. I mean, I’m no you, but I’m not dumb either.”
It’s times like these when Shige really hates being labeled as the smart guy, because he’s not always so smart either. Yamashita’s head is turned to one side, so Shige puts his head next to Yamashita’s and forces Yamashita to look at him. He smiles reassuringly, “I know.”
Yokoyama Yuu/Kato Shigeaki (128 words)
Yokoyama pushes Shige against the wall, eyes bright and lips wet, “I’m not just a horny bastard.”
Shige begins to smirk but then Yokoyama’s hand is in his pants so instead his head hits the wall painfully as he manages to choke out, “Oh, really.”
He nibbles at Shige’s neck, and he groans, “Yeah, really. I just.” He grinds slow and hard onto Shige’s body as if to demonstrate, “I have a lot of urges and no one to satisfy them.”
Shige runs a hand through Yokoyama’s hair and pulls his face closer, “Well, maybe I could change that,” and he leans into Yokoyama for a long, lingering kiss.
“Maybe,” Yokoyama breathes once they surface for air, and then his hand starts to pump and Shige’s mind explodes.
Tanaka Koki/Kato Shigeaki (152 words)
One day, Tanaka walks into the NEWS dressing room and wordlessly hands Shige the costume he’s been frantically looking for like it’s no big deal, and Shige has no idea what to say. Tanaka also puts down a costume next to Tegoshi’s sequined bag, and when he turns around, he catches Shige’s gaze.
He grins toothily, “Tegoshi asked me to fix a rip in his costume, and I noticed that yours had a tear as well, so I borrowed it.” He points to the hem of the right sleeve, and Shige grabs at it, barely finding the tight needlework. “I hope the stitching is okay.”
Shige laughs with amazement, “It’s great. Thanks, Tanaka-kun!”
Tanaka tips his cap in response and walks out with a little swagger just as Tegoshi walks in from the bathroom. He eyes his newly repaired costume with delight and cheers, “Isn’t Koki-kun amazing?”
Shige can’t help but agree.
Masuda Takahisa/Kato Shigeaki (139 words)
When Massu holds a gyoza near Shige’s mouth and coos, “Aah~”, Shige thinks he’s died and gone to a parallel universe, because there was no way Massu would offer food to him like this.
But it isn’t like Nishikido’s rough way of handling Shige. Massu’s eyes are gentle and his hand careful as Shige slowly opens his mouth to accept the offering.
Shige almost blushes at Massu’s steady gaze, and after he finishes, Massu sighs and pops a gyoza into his mouth, chewing thoughtfully. Shige raises a brow, “What was that for?”
Massu shrugs, “I wanted to see what the appeal is, but I don’t get why Nishikido-kun likes feeding you so much, I’d much rather eat it myself.” And then he walks away with the rest of the gyoza, leaving Shige to wonder what exactly had just happened.
Maruyama Ryuhei/Kato Shigeaki (96 words)
Shige watches Maruyama lift the forty pound dumbbells with practiced ease. His muscles ripple fluidly as he lifts them, up and down, up and down, muscles slowly tensing and relaxing in a beautiful cadence. Thankful that no one else is in the gym at that hour, Shige continues to eye Maruyama hungrily, and wonders why he has never bothered to talk to him before.
Oblivious to Shige’s stare, Maruyama eventually puts the dumbbells down and hands them to Shige, “Aren’t you going to do anything?”
Shige gulps, and then, without a second thought, Shige jumps him.
Sakurai Sho/Kato Shigeaki (216 words)
Sakurai giggles, beer sloshing out of his mug, “I wish I were your derivative, so then I’d be tangent to your curves.”
“Okay, now that you’ve forgotten I’m a man, I think it’s time to call it a night,” Shige says, pulling Sakurai up and paying the bill. As he forces Sakurai into a cab and takes him back to his apartment, Sakurai continues to spout the worst pick up lines Shige has ever heard, and this goes on until they reach Sakurai’s apartment and Shige unceremoniously drops him onto his bed.
As Shige pulls the blanket over Sakurai’s body, Sakurai mutters one last, dumb pick up line, “Though the economy may be going down, you get me up up up.”
Shige represses the wishful thinking that arrives at that statement and fluffs Sakurai’s pillow, “Is that so?”
Sakurai burbles, “Yeah, all the time. I can’t stop thinking about you…” and then he yawns loudly and after a few seconds, begins to snore.
Shige can’t believe that Sakurai has said what they two have avoided talking about for weeks, but when it hits him, Shige thinks his heart bursts.
He leans close to Sakurai’s ear and whispers, “Hit on me again when you’re sober,” and he kisses Sakurai lightly on the cheek before he leaves.
Nishikido Ryo/Kato Shigeaki (257 words)
When the rest of NEWS find out about Ryo and Shige’s relationship, they shrug it off, thinking the pair are in it just for the sex and that this phase will pass.
But Shige knows, deep down inside, that it is so much more than that (though no one will deny that the sex IS fantastic).
How can Shige begin to explain the emotions that well up in his throat and lodge themselves there as Ryo looks at him from across the room? Or the way his heart hammers through his chest when Ryo dresses Shige after a quickie, fingers lingering over the buttons, hands smoothing nonexistent creases and making Shige presentable again for the rest of the world.
Shige will never be able to share how, when they watch movies at Ryo’s apartment, they lose themselves in lazy kisses and roaming hands, finding each other more interesting than even the best Academy Award winner.
Or how at night, Ryo will trace imaginary patterns on Shige’s skin.
“kkkk…” Ryo sounds, fingers climbing the slope of Shige’s spine, “Astronaut Ryo has just landed on Planet Shigeaki. It has been an arduous journey, but Ryo knows it’s the best discovery he has ever made.”
Shige doesn’t think anyone else would understand that their relationship is more than just the sex, it is about the little moments, about the gestures that others overlook. People can talk all they want about them, but Shige knows that he’s never been happier than when he is with Ryo, and that this is forever.
AN: Also, I seriously debated including Uchi and Kusano, but then I would also have to include Moriuchi and really, I was pushing my pairings already. BUT if anyone would like to write Shige/them, I’m all for it.
So yes, that was my grand birthday fic to Kato Shigeaki. I hope he has a great one, and I hope you all enjoyed reading this!
