Drabbles, anyone?

Wonder (Ryo x Shige; PG-13) for yum_gums

Sometimes, Ryo wonders about Shige.

He wonders about many things when it comes to Shige. Wonders about Shige’s favorite color, worst sexual encounter, deepest fear. From the minute to the big details, Ryo wonders. He wonders about the perpetual crease in Shige’s forehead, which Tegoshi claims is a wrinkle but Ryo knows better, knows it’s a worry line, and he can’t help but wonder if he’s the one who is making Shige worry.

When they’re lying in bed after twisting and turning and moaning into the cotton sheets, Ryo wonders why Shige refuses to look him in the eye, why the moment they’re done Ryo can barely get a breath in before Shige’s turned away from him on his side and all Ryo can see is the sharp slope of Shige’s spine as it dips into a curve leading to nowhere and everywhere.

Ryo wonders why Shige likes to pretend that Ryo doesn’t really exist, why Shige smiles at Ryo upon arriving at the dressing room but still shuffles over to Koyama and tells him all about his uneventful day. Ryo wonders why Shige’s never bothered to tell Ryo, it’s not like Ryo would mind listening.

And after telling Shige that he doesn’t want this to be just a onetime thing, that Ryo’s in this for the long haul and it shouldn’t have to be just late secret nights and groans muffled into pillows and warm skin, Ryo wonders why Shige just looks at him and shakes his head, before climbing out of bed and out of his life.

Ryo wonders sometimes.

Cooking (Shige x Sho; PG) for moonbyrd

Shige jumps onto the kitchen countertop, legs dangling loosely and fingers splayed tight against the edge as he cocks his head at Sho, “Are you sure you want to do this? Not that I’m much better, but…I’ve heard stories.”

“Aiba is a liar and a…a liar,” Sho tries to glare at Shige for doubting him, but it takes too much energy and Sho thinks he has a disease where he just can’t get angry with Shige. He just, he likes Shige too much (in what way, Sho hasn’t decided, but whatever it is it has his insides all twisty turns and puddles of goo). It’s a horrible disease, Sho thinks, one that he thinks he will never be free from. Sho furrows his brows and tries again, but Shige just flashes him a half-smile and Sho blinks. What was he trying to do? Oh yes, “I assure you, I am MUCH better at cooking than that idiot suggested.”

A giggle. Then another one. Sho pouts. He’s trying to impress Shige here, giggling wasn't exactly how he wanted Shige to respond. Sho sighs and rubs the back of his head embarrassedly, “Okay, so I may not be the greatest, but I. I don’t know. I guess. You know?”

Shige bites his lip and tries to hide his smile, instead just kicking his socked feet back and forth, heels thudding every so often against the wood. Sho leans against the counter, momentarily distracted by Shige’s smooth cadence and the swing of Shige’s calves. It’s a pretty image, Shige’s legs and Shige’s feet and really, just Shige being there with him. Sho has a sudden urge to rest his hand on Shige’s thigh (he bets it will be warm), but then he looks at the frozen chicken in front of him, and he thinks to himself, how fitting.

Meanwhile, Shige pokes Sho sharply on his shoulder blade, and as Sho winces, Shige laughs loud and clear.

“I’ll eat anything you cook,” Shige says softly, and Sho feels something trembling flash hot across his skin.

Famous (Jin x Shige; PG) for fireflychen

Jin looks at Shige, at the smooth curve of his spine hunched over his textbook and lashed eyes painted black against his tanned skin, “Why aren’t you more famous?”

Shige looks at Jin hard before he scoffs, “Did you really just ask me that?” Jin doesn’t really have an answer, because he’s asking himself the same thing.

“Well,” Jin shrugs, sitting down next to him, “I just don’t see why you’re not.” Shige flips a page extra hard, paper rattling in his hand. Jin winces.

Shige doesn’t say anything for a few moments and just when Jin is wondering whether the smart thing would be to leave, Shige sighs, “That’s something I’ve been asking myself from day one.” Shige puts his book down, “Why aren’t I more popular?” he asks, though Jin thinks it’s mainly to himself.

Jin bites his lip, and he can think of a million things he shouldn’t say but then “You’re not as pretty as I am?” and Jin marvels at the almost magnetic way he inserts his foot into his mouth all the time.

Shige’s eyes narrow, and there’s almost a deadly pause before Shige sighs, and Jin wonders if he was supposed to say something. “Thanks, Akanishi,” Shige says tiredly.

As Shige gathers his things and walks out of the room, Jin wonders why he feels like such a douchebag. But then his cell phone rings and it’s Yamapi, and he finds he has better things to think about.

Kissable Lips (Massu x Yamapi; PG) for flipbookfrog

“You have kissable lips.”

Massu looks up at Yamapi with a smile, and Yamapi’s eyes hone in on the grain of rice that hovers dangerously over the curve of Massu’s upper lip. “Thanks.” He goes back to eating his onigiri.

Yamapi sits and waits for the appropriate response, but Massu seems too fixated on his food to notice. He waits a beat. Waits another. And then he sighs and plops down in the seat beside Massu. He glances at Massu, and lets out a longer sigh, then flops his arms onto the table, which nearly land in Massu’s bento.

This time, Massu notices. “Do you need something, Yamashita-kun?” Massu asks, as he carefully picks up his bento and moves it farther from Yamapi’s reach.

A sigh, “No, it’s just. I just. Kissable lips.” Yamapi gurgles into the curve of his arm.

Massu blinks, “You already told me that, and I already said thank you.” Yamapi pouts and buries his face even deeper into the crook of his arms. Massu coughs awkwardly and pats Yamapi’s back, “Are you okay?” He looks around if anyone else can help him, but then he notices Jin’s reflection in the mirror as Jin waits outside of their dressing room for…for something.

And then it doesn’t take long for Massu to figure it out (contrary to popular belief, he isn’t that stupid). He knows these dumb games Jin and Yamapi play, these games of who’s better which don’t mean a thing to anyone but themselves. Massu rolls his eyes and pats Yamapi’s back with a little more pressure (Yamapi grunts).

“You have kissable lips too,” Massu deadpans.

That’s all it takes for Yamapi to jump out of his chair with a grin. He punches Massu in the arm, “You’re a real pal, Massu,” before bolting out the door. Massu hears an excited “Ha, I told you so!” and a “That doesn’t count, it’s Masuda!”

For a second, he thinks he should be offended. But then he looks at his bento, and with a shrug he picks up his chopsticks and goes back to eating.

The Cliff (Ryo x Shige; PG-13) for atax0ph0bic

Sometimes Shige thinks about killing himself. It’s not a thought that takes over his every sense in every hour of the day, but it pops up when he looks at the cliff aligning the street and he thinks about how easy it would be to jump and fly for those precious too few seconds.

He thinks about it, after a rough day of work in that office of his that smells of paper and pretentiousness, when he looks at his coworkers and all he sees are the smiles and laughs that are almost blinding in their falsehood.

Everyday he drives down that lonely road in his lonely town and he always stops by the cliff’s edge. He leans on the rickety fence meant to keep cars from veering over the edge, can test its weak nature, knows it wouldn’t do a thing if he revved the engine and just DROVE.

It would be too easy.

So why not do it? Shige thinks to himself, on one of those days where he’s sitting in his car tapping nonsensical rhythms into the leather of his steering wheel. All he has to do is press down and the gas and floor it.

A deep breath and a shifting of his foot firmly against the weighty pedal and he’s about to GO when suddenly there’s this guy in front of his car and damn it why do his plans NEVER work and Shige forces his foot away from the gas and onto the brakes.

He peers closer at the man in front of him and he feels his heart palpitating underneath his neatly pressed suit. He’s gorgeous, Shige thinks. No, knows, as his eyes rove over the man’s richly tanned skin and the curves of lean muscles in his body.

But while he wants to continue looking at this man forever, instead he rolls down the window and gives him the finger, “What the hell, man? What do you think you’re doing?”

The man looks back, “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Shige’s breath catches as the man’s chocolate eyes bore into his.

Shige opens his mouth to say something, anything, but instead he looks at this man who came from nowhere and all he can say is the truth.

“Nothing feels real anymore.”

The man nods, “Nothing is, if you think about it.” He strides toward Shige’s window and leans in close to Shige’s ear, “Can I have a ride?”

His breath swirls hot around Shige’s ear, and as Shige shudders at the sudden twinge that rushes throughout him, he thinks it’s cliché that this man’s presence alone is the most real thing he’s felt in a long time. And he hates it but it feels so good.

“Do you need one?” Shige asks, though he’s not really sure why.

The man shrugs, “Not really. I just want to get you away from this cliff.”

And for some reason, Shige unlocks the passenger door, “What’s your name?”

“Does it matter?” The man asks. Before Shige can respond, he chuckles and rakes a hand through his hair, an action that makes Shige swallow, “People call me Ryo.”

Shige blinks, “Ryo.” The name rolls off his tongue smoothly, like sweet sweet candy. “Ryo.”

Ryo smiles, “Yup.” And he gently directs the steering wheel so that the wheels face the curve of the road, “Are you going to drive?”

“Where?”

“Anywhere,” Ryo sighs, leaning back into the seat. After a minute, Shige starts the engine slowly and crawls down the road. He peers to his side at the cliff right beside him, but then looks at the man beside him. Ryo mumbles directions, which Shige knows lead them both faraway from the dangerous cliff’s edge.

Somehow Shige lets him (and it feels so right).
