Brrrrr!

It is currently a degree here in Minneapolis. One. One single degree. It feels like 11 below, though, according to the Weather Channel's web site. I don't much care, though, because I am inside drinking my tea and watching the snow, and I am loving it. It is absolutely beautiful, all sparkling and clean and pure, and it fills me with a fierce ( Read more... )

You should really consider doing seminars for the locals (and northern regional cousins) about how great winter is. You'd either be lynched or canonized.

Right?! If they're locals who drive in this weather I'm pretty sure I'd be lynched. I'm so glad I don't drive. There were 236 accidents reported in the metro area between 6:00 and 10:00 this morning, as well as 47 stalls and 40 cars that slid off the road.

But I do love standing at the window, looking at the snow floating down onto the frozen pond, and drinking my tea. It's ever so magical and cozy.

I like the cozies, too. Even this weekend, so cold that people were miserable, meant that the three of us hung out a lot together, in the house, nice and warm. It gives you a feeling of well-being, until you realize that the temperature outside is sixty some-odd degrees colder than the house. Then it becomes a little freaky.

Going out to take out the trash was like that for me on Sunday. My apartment is warm, the hall is warm, oh dear god it is cold outside, the hall is warm, my apartment is warm, wow that was weird. You know?

I really should do that, shouldn't I? It's so gorgeous. I especially love the snowy trees.

I have secretly stopped believing it gets cold anywhere in America anymore, because I haven't experienced it in so many years. Things just go on and on in the same bland 60-ish way here, and it seems strange to me that other places are cyclically getting warmer and colder than we are. It was especially freaky over the weekend, when we had a weird record-breaking warm spell, while everyone else apparently had a record-breaking cold spell. I can sort of remember how my nose felt when it was below zero, but it requires more imagination than it used to. I haven't seen snow fall since 1999. I wish there were some way of timing a visit to Wisconsin to be sure of snow.
