I'm It!

Tagged by missamorphosis! I'm supposed to tell you six things about me, and then choose six people and ask them to do the same.

  1. When I was a kid I dreamed of going to Oxford. My second choice was Cambridge. I was a champion procrastinator even then, though, and never got around to applying to either. I applied to the University of West Florida at the last ( Read more... )

Word that tapping on cans kept them from over-fizzying was spread around when I was a kid, too! I never got into the habit of it, though.

I also wanted to note that I am always finding myself blowing on cold foods, as if they were hot. Something in my mind says that blowing will make the temperature more moderate even if that means from cold to hot. And doesn't that make sense in a way? Like if you kept blowing on ice cream, your warm breath would melt it a bit. But it doesn't really work.

I think that's what I'm trying to do when I blow on salad. Especially salad at a restaurant, where every single veggie feels as though it just came out of the freezer. I sometimes wish I could put the salad plate under a heating lamp for a few minutes. And you're right -- it does seem like it should work, but of course it never does.

Sometimes we have this really good spinach salad that actually is warm. It has a vinegrette dressing and walnuts and...some other stuff I forget. It's not hot - just warm. Good stuff.

That sounds absolutely wonderful. Yum!

When I make salad for myself, I usually make it early enough that it can sit out and come closer to room temperature before it's time to eat it. Not warm, but not OMGCOLD, either.

Well, you can still go to Cambridge or Oxford... ;)

I cannot open a can of soda without tapping on the top with my fingernail a couple of times. Someone told me when I was a kid that the tapping would keep it from fizzing all over the place if it had been shaken. I figured it couldn't hurt and started doing it. I've since found that it doesn't help, but it's become such a habit that I still do it anyway. Always.

I also do this. ;)

I'm glad it's not just me with the tapping thing. :)

My dream is still alive!

I did the cigarette tongue-touch thing, too! I never lit the wrong end, but I suspect that it's only because I didn't smoke long enough. If I hadn't quit, I'd have done it sooner or later.

The salad thing? It's usually followed by "You idiot." Generally, I am the one who says this.

The Barn sounds like a whole bunch of not fun in the winter. Ugh. I'd still rather be cold than hot, though. Yick.

it's good for the soul

I think you'd change your tune (pun totally intended) if you had to hear it.

Is the singing why you have sensitive teeth? ;)

Could be! Maybe they're punishing me for making that awful noise.

I also have super sensitive teeth. So much so that I get prescription toothpaste from my dentist. It helps a lot, you might want to ask your dentist about it. I think it is called Control?

Ooh, I had no idea anything like that existed. Excellent! Thank you for the recommendation. :)

there's actually a non-prescription product that works really well called Sensodyne that you might want to try first. i'm sure it's available in the states as well. if that isn't available look in your toothpaste aisle for tooth sensitivity products ... most contain 5% potassium nitrate. works well and you should see in the results in two weeks or less.

... just found you the website http://sensodyne.com/

Yeah I guess I could have suggested that first. I used to use Sensodyne but it really didn't help me that much. My case is unusual though and my mouth is messed up in multiple ways. I think for most folks Sensodyne works pretty well.
