I want to ride my bicycle

May 12, 2007 16:30

A month ago, I met bluedevi straight from collecting her new bike, with an enormous grin, and clearly reluctant to get off the bike and into my car to drive to London. I think if we hadn't had plans, she would just have carried on cycling around Oxford forever ( Read more... )

I had that song in my head today - it was a little annoying because there's no riding bikes today for me, so we purged it with an earworm killer, but still. Bikes R Joy! :-)

I thought the punchline would be that smiorgan bought a tandem.

That would be cool.

That would indeed be cool, and I do keep trying to convince him, but he seems to have this entirely correct and justified crazy idea that I'd just sit on the back and let him do all the work. And apparently we don't have anywhere to store one. Typical, really: vetoing my exciting ideas with mere practicalities ;-)

Don't forget what the Bard had to say on the subject; some are born to tandems, some achieve tandems, and some have tandems thrust upon 'em.

I want a new bicycle.

But I'm not going to buy one until I can afford a nice one.

Yeah, I can't imagine riding a crappy one again, now I know the joys of a decent bike. But then I look at how far the pricescale keeps going up after mine (and after smiorgan's "nice bike", which is itself quite a few steps up from mine), and I wonder what the niceness-price graph looks like up at the top end... ;-)

(I think, and smiorgan concurs, that I got the best available niceness in the price bracket I was considering. There were more expensive ones, but the extra niceness wasn't sufficient for the extra price. And they were all, ahem, other colours.)
