I know! I have such a disproportionate excitement between this and any other Stephen King (much as I want to read 11.22.63 and Mile 81 and the Dark Tower novel coming next year)... the thought of Dr. Sleep has me wriggling with glee.

I just hope it's a Duma Key rather than an Under the Dome...

I just hope it's a fitting sequel to The Shining, rather than anything like the Black House 'sequel' to The Talisman. It wasn't terrible, but it had none of the wonder, or epic scope.

But the level of terror he'd have to bring to accomplish a proper sequel to The Shining would be much closer to Duma Key, I agree.

I meant more in the quality of the writing and the crafting of the book, which I felt was immeasurably superior in DK.

I know I've read Black House but I can't remember much about it at all, which probably proves your point...

I have no idea how he can cap The Shining in terms of storytelling power, but I can't wait to find out :)

He's got a stand-alone Dark Tower novel (ie, not one of the series) called The Wind Through the Keyhole (I think? I may not be remembering that correctly) coming out in early 2012, too... that couldn't be timed much better for you finishing the current series... at least in comparison to the six years between book three and book four O_O

It still astounds me he started the DT series when he was 19 and it took him, what? 26 years to finish? It was worth it, though! Another DT book? Mercy! And what about all the comics? Have you read them? How many are there? I was very fortunate that my co-worker has the entire DT series and loaned them to me. Somehow I ended up with two of my own Gunslinger books, The Wastelands and the last book, but I don't know how I'll get a hold of all the comics!

I acquire (rather than actively 'collect') copies of The Gunslinger, beginning when he 'updated and revised' it... resulting in about six or so stacked on top of the rest of the series on the bookshelf. I just can't resist grabbing decent copies second-hand.

I have the Gunslinger Born and the Long Road Home parts of the Dark Tower comic series (12, all together)... but I have no idea if there were more, because I stopped buying them at that point. They're interesting to look at, and if you've got the money to spend & like the graphic format, great; but they aren't a vital part of the storytelling. For me, it was all about the books.
