Of Test Scores and Reality

There was an article in the Sunday Star about the quality and success of various charter schools in the city. I agree with you. The ONE thing that breaks the poverty cycle, the crime cycle, the gang cycle, etc., etc. and will have a positive effect on the cities, states and country and world for years to come is to increase what is spent on education. But we all know that doesn't jive with corporate America and doesn't help the rich get richer. So each year we spend less on education and wonder why crimes are committed, teenagers kill each other, join gangs, etc.

And those tests and scores are bs. Just more labels that don't accurately portray anything. I can't imagine how frustrated you feel working in the schools where success is measured so differently and individually.

I'm pretty cynical on the whole mess.

Ut really does get frustrating. We have some awesome teachers, and they're clubbed over the head with "test scores, test scores, test scores," as if that's all that matters. I do love my job and the kids I work with. I don't like the system I work within. And, of course, money for education was cut again by my state last year, severely impacting my already impoverished school district. When will the government realize what's really important?
