"Variety! In the infinite worlds, someone has to die of something besides old age." It all made sense, in a way Death couldn't explain to anyone still on the breathing side of the grave.
She materialized a glass of wine for each of them, offering one to Kuroro. "Destiny's my big brother. Why would he need to see? He already knows what's going to happen." And so did she, when she felt like it, but sometimes it was more fun to be surprised.
It's the 'U' in favour, isn't it? Yeah, I am.nevergiveitbackOctober 18 2009, 21:01:52 UTC
Kuroro took the wine, uttering a thank you, and deciding not to hold it the correct way but how he personally liked, by grasping the bowl from underneath. He just thought it looked cooler than holding it by the stem, and honestly he didn't care if it warmed up the wine
( ... )
Your tagging schedule and "crisps," actually. Also, haven't been getting notifs for Death, sry. :(debitumnaturaeOctober 20 2009, 21:39:36 UTC
"You're a part of Creation. It's not as though we're bringing in non-union contractors." Death smirked, a little. It wasn't mean-spirited, but she was most definitely teasing.
"Metaphor? We are what we are." She shrugged. "If it resonates, it's because of you, not us." Just for a moment, Death fixed Kuroro with her unfathomably deep eyes. Then she looked down into her own glass, swirling the wine within. "I'm glad you like it."
Well, 'chips' sounds really weird, yo.nevergiveitbackOctober 21 2009, 15:30:26 UTC
"Yes, but the idea that my dirty little life has some sort of point is quite uncomfortable. It means there's a reason and a goal for me being me, even if that reason is 'there was a Kuroro shaped hole in the universe' or something simple like that."
Kuroro was going to reply, but just making eye contact like that sent his mind wild. It was amazing. It filled him with an incredible desire to kill someone, but just talking to Death was like the sweet feeling he got when he did. It balanced perfectly. But at the same time it flustered him. He was having real feelings and he hadn't done that, not properly, since he was eight years old. For the first time in a very long time, his face turned red, not because he had wanted it to but because his body reacted beyond his mind. It only lasted a few seconds, but he'd actually blushed. "Not as glad as I am to have been given it."
Contrary to what Franziska has probably been telling people, Phoenix doesn't have a favorite chamber orchestra, and he's not a particularly huge fan of orchestral music in general, but he knows Franziska likes it. He does have to admit that it adds a certain atmosphere to the party.
Sitting in a char off to the side, he watches the orchestra play while happily resting his feet, which are now, thankfully, free of blister-causing Italian dress shoes and comfortably fitted with his tried and true black loafers.
Tyki was nowhere to be seen for about half an hour, but then he comes strolling back into the house. It doesn't take him long to locate Phoenix, and he walks towards him with studied grace, trying to seem casual as he sinks down into a chair next to Phoenix.
Attention drawn to the movement beside him, Phoenix's demeanor immediately changes as soon as he sees who's there, becoming clearly irritated. Does he really not know how to take a hint?
Folding his arms over his chest, he turns back to the orchestra, treating Tyki to more silence. He'd like nothing more than to ask the other man to leave the estate, but he'd rather not risk a confrontation when everyone seems to be having a nice time.
"No, I... need to explain this gift. And it's for you, not for Franziska." He hesitates. It's difficult not to get angry or simply leave, but he wants to make this one gesture - has wanted to for a long time, but his hand has been forced, and that's off-putting in itself.
He reaches into his pocket and withdraws a locket with the emblem of the scales of justice upon it.
"Please, Phoenix." He holds it out to him, letting it swing on the chain so the movement will hopefully catch Phoenix's eye.
The movement does catch his eye, and--in spite of himself--he turns to look at it, taking note of the color and emblem, which vaguely remind him of the tie-tack Edgeworth gave him. Under any other circumstances, Phoenix might have been receptive to (if a little surprised by) the gesture, but right now, all it looks like is a sorry attempt to win his favor.
'Shaky' is an understatement, at least as far as Phoenix is concerned right now. He furrows his brow. "...And you think a necklace is going to do that."
Arms still folded, Phoenix lets the locket dangle from Tyki's fingers, refusing to take it. Whatever's inside won't erase the horrors he witnessed on that video, and as such, it won't repair what tenuous trust Phoenix might have had for the other man before then; he sees no reason to let him explain.
"Tyki, whatever trust I had for you was based on the idea that you could change... that you wanted to change. And maybe that was blind optimism on my part, but I believed you." A stupid mistake he isn't going to let himself repeat. Shaking his head, he turns back to the orchestra. "I think what you really want has been made pretty clear, though."

"I have a present for you." Softly. "Call it an anniversary gift, if you wish. Or not, as you prefer."

Frowning, he finally makes eye contact with Tyki.
"Do you have any idea what you've done?"

"I think so," he said quietly. "I've done quite a few things. One of them is shaking your trust, which I'm aware was quite shaky to begin with."
He proffers the locket again. "That's why I want to try to win it back."
