I'm a POSER

Aug 21, 2008 08:23

Heard of POSE running?  Now I have!  I think it could be a good thing.  Go faster!  Less impact!  Fewer injuries!  Except I don't think one workout will change my running style.  I think it needs to be a longer term, coached effort to make a real difference.

Time for multitasking.  Conference call + shoulder exercises.

I hadn't, but looking at it (though I shuddered looking at the website, with all of its "AS SEEN ON TV" stuff), it looks very similar to the principles of chi running (which this guy seems to confirm).

Learning those concepts seemed to help me, I think. The whole lean/fall thing is hard to get used to, because it feels scary, and it makes you go faster than you think you want to go. And I certainly don't remember to do it all the time, but I think practicing letting your body do that helps even when you don't remember to do it consciously.

I will say that their website and all the copyright symbols and sort information hiding they seem to do turns me off a little. It feels like it's secretly a multi-level marketing scheme or something. :) Or like bikram yoga, where you get fined if you claim to be practicing it without paying Bikram to use the name.

The website does give off that vibe, for sure. I was introduced to it by a certified coach who came to our Trizones workout, and she didn't give off that vibe at all. She barely mentioned the website, and just presented herself as someone who really believes that these methods reduce injury and help you go faster.

That's cool that it's similar to what you're doing. Is that your go fast secret?

I wouldn't say I do chi running. Karen teaches chi running, and worked with me once to help me get the concept, but I imagine the founder of chi running would be appalled if he saw me running and I claimed I was chi running. But incorporating some of the concepts definitely helped me. I have no idea if they help me go faster, or if they really have any tangible benefit, or if it was coincidence. :)

How's your shoulder?

I think it feels more stable, now that I'm doing my exercises regularly. I may hold off on spending the money to see another ortho as long as it's feeling better. Of course I'm not doing anything stressful to it, such as swimming.

It's sort of the same concept as Chai running, I looked at pose about 3-years ago, but just couldn't adapt to running on my toes, especially with the short leg!

I recent took a class on Chai running with Karne from Rogue and am going to sign-up for some one on ones and then join a marathon training group. I think the midsole strike better suits my needs.

I kidded Cindy about being a POSEr when she decided to diss us (Splash n Dash) for POSE-ing.. I'm going to check out their website too. For when I'm allowed to run again.
