Winter..?

It's snowing, really snowing and sticking, for the first time this winter. I haven't been this excited about snow since I was a kid. It was just so weird to have all these winter months, heading into MARCH without snow. It makes me feel a little better about the world, really ( Read more... )

I have heard of Parsons school, but I honestly had no idea that it was that type of situation. Huh. I interviewed years ago at TCPL and it seemed like a good environment to work for (in the end I didnt take the job since I public libraries were not really what I was looking for) - I do know that there starting salaries were better then Cornell (Cornell informed me that I should be happy to be working there. I sort of boggled at them).

I know its frustrating - I have plenty of friends who are recent MLS grads and its a tough market. I am seeing more and more openings, so I think there is hope. Just keep your foot in the door the best you can so you have recent experience, and that will help. If you ever want a second eye on resumes or cover letters, I am happy to lend one too - I have sort of seen the range of them at this point.

Sorry to hear that your job search isn't going so well.

Are you strictly looking at jobs in upstate NY?

I've been on Unemployment since the end of April 2011. You may not make the full benefits because you work some, but it seems you would qualify for most of the available benefits. I got the full amount since I lost my job entirely, but if I was to work one day, even if just for an hour, my benefits for that week would be decreased a bit. Just make sure you elect to have your taxes taken out before you receive them - otherwise you have to have the taxes taken out all in one chunk when you get your taxes done. Better to not get them in the first place and get some returned to you, IMHO.

Good luck. The job market sucks out there (as suggested by the fact that it's now March and I am still on Unemployment).

Dropped hours & low employment sucks. I'm sorry. But I think you're really awesome for 1)knowing your limits well enough to know that high-stress social service jobs are not for you (it took me months at CPS to figure that out), and 2) for having the kids' wellbeing in mind. I hope things pick up in your job search.
