Never doubt the Clark Gregg love

The internet used a fan syllogism to freak me the fuck out last week. That syllogism:
1) Clark Gregg's Agent Phil Coulson is a much beloved character that ties together the disparate Marvel fim franchises.
2) Joss Whedon, who is directing Clark Gregg (among others) in The Avengers, is known for brutally killing off beloved characters in franchises.

Ugh, you scared me there for a minute. I first fell in love with Clark Gregg on The West Wing and was kind of jumping up and down in my chair when he showed up in Iron Man. If Agent Coulson died in The Avengers, that would be enough to make me seriously reconsider seeing it. (Damn you, Joss Whedon.)

P.S. those of you females in denial about Thor's hotness

I've talked to very few males who are in denial about Thor's hotness. He breaks down barriers of gender and sexuality! ALL HAIL THOR'S HOTNESS!

See, the fact that other dudes were like, "WHOA," made me even more confused when the mythical flying ponies among us ladies were all, "Meh, doesn't do it for me." It is completely kerfuffle-ing to think of anyone looking at that who doesn't at least throw Chris Hemsworth mad respect, much less the slavering lust he is deserved.

I know, right!?! I was all upset because the logic was pretty powerfully infallible. Joss Whedon does kill off beloved characters and Marvel would never let him kill any of their tent-pole characters. (Unless it was a stunt to bring them back, but what flies in the comics clearly doesn't fly in movies, so I doubt that that was ever likely.) So if he's gotta do it and he can't touch anyone Marvel owned prior to the movies, including characters with no movies of their own who aren't big players (Black Widow, Hawkeye, Nick Fury), who's the next most likely to go?

Agent Coulson. To which I did a very Revenge of the Sith-style shaking of fists towards the heavens "NOOOOOOOOO!!!"...until I read that article. If Clark Gregg is fucking with us and he's gonna die, fine, at least he tried. But I hope he's right and he's with us for the long haul.
