What was the first thing that popped into your head. If you're me--and a lot of other nerds like me--the first thing that popped into your head was Robocop. You may also have thought of The Crow, another dystopia-backgrounded film, also set in the city upon which dystopias are now based because New York cleaned up its act. Detroit makes me think of Eminem. Which is also kind of dystopic.

My first thought about Detroit is the Red Wings - then the gorgeous architecture, amazing art museum, and generally very kind people.

But then again, it's my hometown, and I definitely don't consider it a shit city. It's gone through horrifically bad times, but people are continuing to work their asses off to try to make it better.

However a statue of Robocop would be hella win...

Not meaning to poke at your hometown. The commercial my friend linked to above makes a good point that what people outside of Detroit know about the city is the bad stuff. That's not necessarily the truth, it's just the most photogenic truth, alas. So my impression of Detroit is, obviously, biased.

I know you didn't, and I realised my comment was a bit of an overreaction. It's just - one gets very used to hearing people ripping it down.

And I LOVE LOVED that commercial! I seriously got all teary when I first saw it. It's perfect.
