Hey, like I said at Tor -- this episode was SO BAD that it has actually made me consider it possible for authors to lose the ability to write canon. Such that there IS no canon ending for this show.
This isn't a new phenomenon. Philip José Farmer (who died recently) was famous for starting off great, engaging series that sort of lost their way after two or three books and ended badly.
I think the people at Tor pointing out that "God has been there the whole time!" are totally missing the point. I stand by my assertion that this show did once balance the rational and the irrational--that faith could exist as the answer for some people and for others it was a red herring. That answers found in faith frequently had real counterparts, et al. Regardless, the most important aspect was that free will, under the influence of God or not, decided things far more than some higher power. As soon as humanity and Cylons stop deciding their own fate, what's even the F'ing point?
I believe there is no canon ending. I'm thinking of several points where this show could have diverged to be more powerful and have harder consequences, and I'll post about it later. But yeah, any other canon is better than this...
