Do I think this is a hyperbolic review of the latest Battlestar Galactica episode? Not really. (Spoilers at that link!) Some douchenozzle replied to the post about how sexist BSG isn't, and how none of the women suffer any more than the men (nor are they punished any more than men are for their missteps ( Read more... )

Yeah, this even irked me, and you know how indifferent I am to what my tv shows do. I was trying to think of how many women have been killed off or had their plotlines dropped, and basically... ALL OF THEM? Sharon's rarely seen any more. Starbuck had an awesome plotline but her appearance in this episode was pointless. The awesome Head!Six is gone now that Caprica's knocked up. D'Anna may or may not have stayed behind on "Earth". Are there ANY female characters left doing anything interesting?

(Though, for the record, it was explicitly stated that Cally slept with Hot Dog BEFORE she and Tyrol got together, so she didn't actually "cuckold" anybody.)

He said just before the marriage -- not a true cuckold then, but they were certainly somehow involved before then.

I just don't even know what to do any more. I still want to know how it ends, but I kind of wish it already had, if they intend to keep going this way, you know?

The boyfriend was willing to entertain the notion that Cally wanted to kill the kid because she didn't want it raised by a Cylon, but I think he's reaching for a reason to explain the BS retcon. There are a million other things she could've done if she didn't want Nicky raised by a Cylon - like, oh, I dunno, leave a note for the Doc? Hand him off to Hot Dog? Why do we need more Hot Dog, anyway?

I'm going to keep using my Dee icon every time I post about BSG until SOMEONE on the show recognizes that they miss her. I mean, I'll use it anyway, 'cause I like it (and her) and all. I just want to see if they ever speak her name again.

I happen to like Hot Dog, but I'm not buying any of this for nothing. I sympathized with Cally a little in her last episode. Despite the ridiculous drug addiction out of nowhere and her being completely unreasonable about assuming Tyrol was cheating on her (which, hello, Ms. Pot, that is Mr. Kettle), I really felt for her in discovering her husband was a Cylon. Especially when he tried to make nice with her talking about how they were going to be a family again, maybe with another kid. Because from her point of view all she could possibly be hearing was "THIS IS A MACHINE THAT USED YOU TO REPRODUCE BECAUSE IT COULDN'T DO SO ON ITS OWN. IT STILL WANTS TO USE YOU. IT TRICKED YOU AND DOESN'T LOVE YOU. IT JUST WANTS YOUR UTERUS." (The real painful kicker in that is that Cally has spent her entire relationship with Tyrol pretty much convinced that he didn't really love her--which is true, given his reaction after she died ( ... )
