Summary: a friend she’d met a long time ago at last rescues Sakomi.
“Here.” Nobori Misako pressed a key and a cell phone into Suzuki Sakomi’s hand. “If you ever want to leave your world behind or if you ever need me, you use these. The key will open the door to my world in Castle Doran and the phone will reach me. No matter where you are or even when you are, I will always hear this phone ring.” Misako smiled. “I won’t leave you here to die.”
“Thank you, Misako.” Sakomi took careful care to hide the objects. “You should stay here.”
“I can’t stay here.” Misako murmured. “But don’t worry. If you call, I will come.” With that, Misako vanished into the open door, causing it to slam shut.
Sakomi looked at the closed doors before she turned and walked back through Caste Doran, knowing full well that if she was not back soon, Nobori Taiga, her husband, would be very angry with her.
That had been last year, the last time Sakomi had been able to see her best friend, Misako. Taiga, Sakomi’s domineering husband, kept Sakomi on a short leash, forbidding her to see Misako from coming to see Sakomi. Since Taiga kept Sakomi on such a short leash, she’d been unable to use the hidden cell phone to call her friend.
So, Sakomi tried to endure her husband’s tyranny as best she could, with only her father and Sakurai, the Rook, to protect her.
One afternoon, as Sakomi was reading a book and enjoying a rare, quiet moment to herself, the secret cell phone rang. It was just a text message, but Sakomi nearly sprang up and she dove for the phone.
The message was simple, but it got Sakomi’s heart racing.
My husband, Mitsuhide has a brother we’d like you to meet.
Sakomi looked around for a moment, then up and realized she was being watched. She had to wait a few minutes before she could shoot out the camera staring at her, but she wasn’t about to let the message go.
Once Sakomi KNEW she was alone, she began to reply, hoping Misako would send her a picture or something.
What kind of brother? What’s he like? Is he cute?
A pause and a “beep” and then Sakomi’s eyes lit up.
Yes, he’s very cute! Would you like to see a picture of him?
She couldn’t type the reply fast enough and then there was another beep as the picture loaded. And then, her heart almost stopped.
A cell phone camera picture of Fujimori Satoru, HER Satoru was suddenly appearing on the screen. Sakomi’s hand began to shake as she looked at the image. Finally, after trying to bring her heart rate back up, Sakomi punched in a tentative reply.
Is that who I think it is?
Another beep and Sakomi nearly screamed with joy. It took Misako a while, but she managed to explain to Sakomi how her world was different. The more Sakomi learned, the more she saw her escape as feasible.
The last message sealed the deal.
Would you like to meet him?
Just as she prepared to type back the “yes”, the double doors opened and Taiga stormed in.
“What are you doing?”
The last thing Sakomi was able to type before Taiga smacked her was a signal for Misako to come. HELP!
Little did Sakomi know that she’d also activated the phone’s camera so the next thing Misako saw when she got the message was Taiga beating Sakomi senseless.
Misako wasted no time rallying her husband and his brother, Satoru before going to her friend’s aid.
“How many fucking times to I have to tell you that you are MINE?!” Sakomi’s body hit the floor with a sickening sound, her left arm feeling like it might be broken. “You are not leaving here unless it’s in a coffin!”
“…Taiga, stop.” Sakomi pleaded.
“I knew that bitch was bad news!” Taiga loomed over the bloody Sakomi, who was trying to suit up using her good arm. “What more do I have to do to make you understand that!”
“She’s my friend.” Sakomi spat out, as she tried to sit up again. “She cares about me.”
“She’s a liar!” Sakomi screamed as she was kicked. “NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOU! YOU ARE WORTHLESS!” He kicked her harder and Sakomi’s body began to give out, exhausted and weak from his beating and her broken spirit.
Sakomi knew that fighting back would only get her more injured, but she still tried to get herself up. “Why do you hate me so much?” She finally asked after a moment. “What did I do to deserve this?”
“You’re a whore, that’s why! I married you just to shut people up! You think I care about a worthless wolf bitch like you?”
Suddenly, Bishop came in, knocking Taiga away from his wounded daughter.
“I should have killed you when I had the chance.” Bishop muttered. “Dearest….”
“Daddy…” Sakomi couldn’t make herself get up. “It hurts.”
Bishop managed to pick Sakomi up, but he didn’t get far, having underestimated Taiga’s anger or his determination to keep his Queen… even if he hated her.
The next hit sent Bishop into the wall, Sakomi into a door and left her weak, bruised, bleeding and unable to move to get her phone. She managed to somehow crawl over to where the phone lay and grab it in her hand before Taiga stepped on her hand.
“You and your father are real pieces of work, you know.” Taiga scoffed. “Your father, well, serves him right for falling in love with your mother. I had her killed partially because she turned on me and partially to spite him,”
“My mother didn’t deserve that. You had no right to blackmail her that way.” Sakomi sputtered, blood trickling from the side of her mouth. “You were just jealous. As you always ARE.”
“You are MY Queen. No one else had a right to touch you, especially that scruffy Wolfen. You are mine, whether you like it or not.”
“You are a bastard.” Sakomi spat. “You are horrible. You murdered my mother and then, just because you are exactly like your no-good father, you killed your mother! Thank GOOSDDESS someone put Maya, the poor woman, out of her misery! I just wish it hadn’t been you!”
“My mother was a worthless whore… falling in love with a human….” Taiga spat. “She deserved everything she got!”
“NO SHE DID NOT!” Sakomi had always liked Maya, always tried to be kind to her. “Maya didn’t deserve your hatred. You were her son and she loved you! She gave you away so you would be safe! And that was how you repaid her! You MURDERED her!”
“SILENCE!” He reached down and picked her up by her throat. “You have no right to tell me such things! You are not the judge of me!”
Suddenly a voice Sakomi thought she would die before she heard again broke through her husband’s angry ranting.
“Well, someone should be.”
Suddenly, something large and black rammed into Taiga, sending Sakomi to the ground and Taiga across the floor. She could hear snarling and yelling and the sounds of beating before she saw Misako (or at least she thought it was Misako, as her vision was going), come to her side.
“Sakomi, are you okay?” Misako’s voice was faint.
“Misako…” Sakomi whimpered before finally falling unconscious, hearing Misako scream for Mitsuhide.
Sakomi heard some voices in the background and then she sighed softly as she heard beeping. “Misako?”
“I’m here.” Misako was there at her friend’s side. “Are you okay?”
“It hurts.” Sakomi wheezed.
“I know, don’t worry.” Misako said. “You don’t have to worry about anything anymore. We got you someplace where you’ll be safe… and we even got your Dad, so you won’t be alone, okay?”
Sakomi just made a noise and sighed softly.
Misako waved someone over and Sakomi’s vision cleared just in times to see Fujimori Satoru come to the bedside, a gentle smile on his face. Even after all the time that had passed, the sight of him never failed to make Sakomi’s heart race.
“Hello.” He said in that achingly familiar voice.
Sakomi really wished that she wasn’t in a hospital bed and looking like hell. She wanted to look her best when she saw Satoru. “Hi.” She wheezed. “I’m Suzuki Sakomi.”
He smiled and Sakomi felt her heart melt. “I know who you are.”
“I’m sorry I look like hell.”
“Don’t apologize.” He kissed her non-bruised hand. “You look beautiful to me. Now, maybe we should arrange a nice little date.”
“Maybe when I feel better?” Sakomi suggested.
He smiled and then came over to kiss Sakomi softly, causing her heart to flutter more. “I would like that, yes.”
The kiss made Sakomi feel alive again and somehow, she knew that she was either in a fairy tale, a dream or a wonderful, blissful new life.
“I thought I would never see you again.”
“I’m not the exact Satoru, but…” He put her hand on his chest and let him feel her heartbeat. “I’m alive and I’m here and after Misako told me about you… I was already in love, so…. Here I am.”
Sakomi sighed softly before exhaustion took her over and she passed out again.
Misako smiled. “I think I’ll just leave you two alone.” She murmured, walking out to where he own husband was waiting for her.
When Sakomi came back to consciousness, she found Satoru curled up in the hospital bed beside her like a puppy. She stroked his hair and sighed softly. He wasn’t the exact same Satoru, but that mattered little. It was still Satoru, still the man she’d loved and that was enough.
After so long in the nightmare, Sakomi was finally free.
“Thank you, Misako.” Sakomi pressed the key and broken cell phone back into Misako’s hand.
“For what?”
“For saving me.”
