We made our farewells to our hosts before bed, on Sunday night. They would both be leaving for work early Monday morning, and we didn't want to get up any earlier than we had to.

hehe. During that discussion, Maddy and I were talking about different cities, and there was this pause in the conversation, and I said, half-jokingly, "I hear San Antonio's pretty cool..."

Like San Diego but without the ocean and without the high housing prices. And if you need a beach, Corpus Christi isn't that far away; if you need a skanky border town, Laredo isn't that far away.. different Interstates but both about 2-3 hours south. The Hill Country.. so pretty and so much closer than California's "country". If you need hippies, there are probably a few in Austin somewhere.

If I had to do a Doc-Hollywood thing (live wherever my car breaks down last), I'd pick S.A. over all the other places, New Orleans included.
