I agree, much more fun and less stress with the smaller, show up and race, races. USAT has this new retro series http://www.usatriathlon.org/events/usa-triathlon-retro-tri-series.aspx

It sounds like something a bit different, and the TX race is too close to Roth for me to go see whats going on.
