In the 30's young John Kennedy traveled through Europe with his sister Kathleen and his brother Joe. One thing that stayed with me when I read about this trip was his line in a letter back home that

"There are no old men here"

There were no old men in England or France in the 30's because an entire generation had been wasted on the battlefield.
That is staggering to me.

yes that is always something that gets me too. So many died during the Great War. It is such a loss.
