When still in Chicago, a friend asked what we're going to do with Joseph's English. I said we're going to stick to our One-Parent-One-Language system (OPOL) we've been using since forever, and let English find its own way to survive. Nice post. I find your modified opol, in order to comfort Joseph during these disturbing times, touching.
That clip is called cloth peg in the UK. I must admit I am a bit surprised by the slippers rule though.

Thanks, Souad. We just keep the OPOL, but also play by ears.

The slipper rule is for the kids to move comfortably and to keep the class clean.

Interesting how English can make Jo feel at home in his new school/house. Dan pinter jg dia bisa switch back ke Indo dan French later on (duh, bahasa gua ancur yak..hahaha).
Bentar lagi elo sekeluarga bisa 4 bahasa deh, San :) Pengen tau ntar Louise gimana.

Krn Inggris bahasa mainnya dia, Cin, yg bikin dia connect ke dunia anak2nya di Chicago. Joseph bisa switch lagi ke bahasa native gw dan Nico, krn dari baby dia udah dibiasain dgn rule OPOL itu.

OPOL seems not so easier, I just confuse, how can our child make differences when they learn a lot of languages.

Please don't get confused. OPOL is actually a very simple method. It stands for One-Parent-One-Language where each parent consistently speaks ONLY the native language to their kids. This way, kids will be able to distinguish different languages easily. For more info on OPOL

Ckckck... seriously San, gw kagum banget lo bisa menerapkan sistem OPOL ini. Ditambah dengan English sebagai bahasa di sekolah lama dan sekarang ada bahasa German yang harus dikuasi oleh Jo.
