( from here. )

Listening to Arthur say that, in such a soft tone, makes Eames pause, staring at him as he knocks back the rest of his drink. And then Eames speaks, quietly.

"Darling, how could anyone not be? Who wouldn't want to discover the man behind that inscrutable mask, the one that makes those sarcastic quips and threatens to shoot people ( Read more... )

Arthur could already tell he was going to have bruises around his wrists tomorrow if Eames kept that grip up. But he didn't try to get away. At least not at the moment.

Head still bowed, not able to look at the other man, "For what I said."

And then he did look up, feeling something in him will him to, something inside him refusing to roll over in the face of Eames' [justified] anger, "But I have every right to have doubts - of everyone, including you."

Rain is still coming down but it might as well have been clear for all Arthur could care as he continued, looking right at Eames, "In our profession we have to carry fucking totems to make sure where we are is real; excuse the fuck out of me for wanting some goddamn proof of people. Especially those saying they want something a lot of people don't even believe is there - including myself."

"People see me and think I'm suppose to be empty, Eames. I'm just some asshole with the personality of a stick wrapped up in a suit. That's all I am to most people so, yeah, you come to me ( ... )

Arthur follows, letting Eames keep his grip on Arthur's sleeve and not really making any attempt to pull away. After the scene both caused, the point man can't really make himself care what anyone thinks if they see them (Eames walking and tugging one of Arthur's suit sleeves, Arthur following with his other hand simply at his side, and both soaked to the bone).

For two thieves they certainly do seem to cause a lot of scenes.

But Arthur continues to follow silently, appreciating the rain while they are still in it.

The difference is their scenes can usually be passed off as drunks, lover's quarrels or fights between friends - never anything about their profession.

Eames' hand slips from the wrist to curl his fingers very lightly around Arthur's, not so much hand holding as leading, and after a short five or so minutes they reach the suites.

"Here we are," Eames says, urging Arthur inside the lobby.

Arthur had tilted his head slightly at the fingers, looking at them for some of the walk and, slowly, his fingers moved to curl the other man's in return, curious to what might happen or what it would feel like to do that with Eames' fingers...

But when they reach the front door and Eames is urging him inside, he lets go and moves in ahead of the other, wet shoes squeaking loudly against the smooth, shiny floor.

Eames follows him in, flashing a quick smile at the woman behind the counter before he places a hand on Arthur's side.

"Elevator's this way, darling," he said even as the wet state of their clothes made his teeth chatter ever so slightly. He pays them enough that they don't get to give them weird looks for coming in wet.

Arthur nearly slips and falls onto the floor by taking such a sharp turn in wet shoes but somehow manages to catch his footing again before that can happen, following Eames and ignoring whatever looks he (or both of them) might be getting.

He lets Eames take the lead as this is his hotel, leaning against the back wall of the cart after entering an empty elevator, and Arthur doesn't know the floor or room.

Eames takes up the rear and follows Arthur, stepping into the elevator and hitting the number for his floor, which is near the top - full suite, of course.

He doesn't comment on Arthur's almost tumble.

"I should have something you can wear, if you want to wait out the rain and go home, or you're welcome to stay the night. I've some sweats that will fit you I think," he says as the elevator starts a smooth right up after one large lurch.

Arthur continues to lean against the back wall, feeling the water dripping off is his face and clothes but doesn't bother to wipe at it.

He shrugs, watching the numbers light up one by one as the elevator continued to "When you said you'd be a gentleman, I assumed that meant I would be staying the night." His eyes then slide over to the other man, the look in the unreadable because even Arthur didn't really know why he was doing this.

Just that Eames... maybe he really did deserve a chance to prove he was more than what Arthur had always deemed him of being.

"Maybe I meant I would just refrain from peeking at you as you changed," Eames said cheekily, then sobered a bit. "But of course you're welcome to the stay. The bed is big enough for two, and I know the couch is quite comfortable if you're adverse to sharing."

He fell silent after a moment, the elevator slowing to a stop as it opened onto their floor, and Eames headed out towards his door.

Arthur had had a quip in mind for the first response but the second one made him say something that surprised even himself on some level and yet... he knew it should be said (there wasn't any "maybe" about it now, he felt) : "I meant it when I said I was sorry."

Voice soft but sincere, "You... you've never done anything to deserve those things I said. I have my own... issues, obviously, but I shouldn't hold you accountable for them." And he let his voice trail off as he finished, looking down at the floor as it was really sinking into him how unfair he had always been with the forger.

And, really, Eames offering to give up his bed to Arthur if he didn't want to share it... it was so simple but also so selfless an offer that it was just another example of Eames showing Arthur what he was really like and Arthur was...

He was ashamed of himself for his behavior and words - such angry words - towards a person that, despite all of that, was still being kind, considerate to him. Arthur knew he didn't deserve that kind of treatment ( ... )

They're at the door when Eames speaks, and he pauses, keys in hand. The expression he gives Arthur is - well, it's quite clearly surprise.

He steps forward and reaches out to take one of Arthur's hands, gingerly.

"Darling, I know you meant it. And it's okay. It's not as if I don't come with my full set of issues and baggage as well. I always have to pay for a second carry-on when I fly," he teases, and then tugs.

"Come on, we can talk about it inside."

Arthur nods and goes willingly at Eames' tug, walking through the doorway when it is open. He doesn't make any move to pull his hand away from the forger's, though, water still dripping off of his face and clothes onto the floor.

Eames pauses when they get inside, noting how Arthur's dripping, and curls his fingers around Arthur's and continues to lead him in, closing the door behind him and then heading for the bathroom with point man in tow.

"Actually, lets get you dried off and then we can talk about it, hm?"

Again, he nods silently and follows, not pulling his hand away but watching their two joined hands as they walk. He looks up again when they reach the bathroom, brows going up a little at how large it is.

Eames wasn't exaggerating when he alluded to the room being spacious.

Eames lets go of Arthur's hand but stays within visual range, opening the bathroom cupboards to retrieve a towel and a bathrobe.

He hesitates then. "You can just change out if you want, or you're welcome to take a bath as well."

The corners of his mouth quirking a little, "Pretty sure I had my "shower" out there."

"But thank you for the offer."
