Luke had the theory that the island knew what kind of crap he had been through and therefore was nice enough to skip over him when embarrassing things like turning into a pony happened. When Percy heard Luke next door, he was, of course, going to go over to see what was going on. He stopped in the doorway and tilted his head.

"Wow, that haircut looks really good on you," he said and it was completely sincere and devoid of sarcasm because, well, it did.

"Yeah? Thanks," he said, pulling his fingers through the strands a bit. "I like it too. The lady in town did a good job even if I did disappoint her by not letting her dye my hair."

"She wanted to dye it the same blonde I have now, she just wanted to cover up the gray," Luke explained. "She kept going on about it, asking if premature grayness ran in the family."
