Sometimes everybody lies to the people that they care about. Sometimes it’s the only way to keep a secret you don’t want anyone to know.
Lucas Scott has a secret.
A big one.
He’s got a heart condition and ever since Dan turned his back on him he’s not had enough money for the medication he needs. The very same medication that keeps the disease from killing him.
He makes the pills last as long as he can, sometimes going days between doses and trying to explain to people why he can’t be somewhere or do something. He uses the convenient excuse of homework, what teenager hasn’t got homework to do?
It’s only when he runs out that he resorts to something he never thought he would. He steals from his mother, to fund the expenses of his next prescription.
He feels bad about it but if she knew she wouldn’t begrudge him it but the point is that she doesn’t know and won’t, not if Lucas can keep this secret. He hasn’t even told Haley.
It’s just that no one can know about this, Lucas doesn’t want them to know. Doesn’t want anything to change because he’s got a bad heart and it isn’t even his fault.
He doesn’t take much; he just takes enough to cover the cost. He’ll worry about the rest later, just like he’s been doing.
