I crashed early last night and then internet was out all day so just now getting a chance to go through this!

This is so neat! I really love this tip, never thought of it that way. When going about colouring the icon, every adjustment layer that pertains to the colour of the icon should be placed underneath the white Colour Fill layer, and every adjustment layer that pertains to contrast or lighting should be placed above it.
