Now you've got a plot-bunny simmering in my mind---what if Snape and Hermione were sitting in a pub, both Polyjuiced to keep away the wizarding papparazzi, and the same thing happened?
I'd love to see Snape's reaction--and it might be a bit of a "WTF?" moment as well....
ok, just googled him----oooohhh, tres cute! And a very "Snapish" nose as well...
I guess I haven't been reading your blog long enough to know that your hubby wrote such a highly-regarded political blog---does he still? And would you mind posting a link to it? (or email it to me)
Ok, tell me if either of the below videos solves your mystery here.
Turns out there "is" a character in Eastenders named "Chris", but Chris Coghill is his REAL name, not his character name (the character name is Tony King)--is this perhaps who your acquaintances in the pub 'thought' they were seeing?--(but he's not Adrian Brody)---
Then, to confuse matters further, there was a video featuring a man playing the Eastenders theme beautifully on classical guitar, and his name was Chris Moreton--but he looks nothing like Adrian Brody... (smile)...
Yeah, I wonder that as well. At first I thought maybe we misheard the Adrien Brody, but I know we didn't, unless we're both going crazy. It wasn't like, 'Who? Are you saying Adrien Brody?' There was no question that was the name being said.
Then I thought maybe we misheard the EastEnders, but... again, it wasn't like at the time I was thinking, 'What'd he say? He must've said EastEnders.'
So I dunno. Maybe the dude was testing us: 'A-ha! That looks like Adrien Brody, of whom I am a gigantic fan. But it might not be, so I shall test him by saying I loved him in EastEnders. And if he says thank-you, I shall know he is an imposter!'
And the BL didn't say thank-you, he said WTF?, so perhaps the guy was then convinced that he was Adrien Brody, but didn't know how to admit that the EastEnders thing was a ruse...

So, I do wonder how your acquaintances managed to mix up Adrian Brody, Chris Coghill, Chris Moreton, and your BL---very interesting....
