Top Ten Exchange Prompts

Jan 30, 2010 15:06

Lots and lots of exchange prompts caught my eye this year, and it's been difficult narrowing down the list to ten. They're a mixture of ones I'd love to write and ones I'd love to read; each one has a little quirk that, for some reason, I find appealing. I've added some commentary too, so I've put them behind the cut in case anyone doesn't want ( Read more... )

Those are excellent prompts. My faves are 1 and 7 for fics and 2 for art all because of the humorous possibilities.

Say, trib, don't mean to distract you, but what's up with "Soul Man"?

Well, so basically, in the bits I haven't posted yet, I wrote myself into a tight little plot-corner and the whole thing descended into madness. I wasn't happy with that, so I stopped updating and am in the process of rewriting the five or so chapters yet to come.

See, I always outline my fics in great detail before I write them, and I was sticking to the outline so religiously that I had actually finished a draft before I realised there were big problems with the climax and denouement! I'm such a slave to process, and the idea of abandoning what I'd outlined really bugged me. So in the end, I had to go back and make a new outline, with the first 15 chapters as I'd already written them, and planning out the rest more in accordance with those.

I know that's probably more than you wanted to know! Essentially, I am completely rewriting the rest, and when it's all done and I'm satisfied with it, I'll put up all the remaining chapters back to back. I'm actually working on it this afternoon! :-)

I am eager to see how your tale will end.

My writing process is similar to yours with a definitive outline, but it's not always very detailed. My writing is linear, following the sequence of the outline. However, if I run into a block - a scene for instance that I can't find the right words to describe my vision - I'll skip that part to keep the writing momentum going, then I'll revisit the passed over segment.

That's probably more than you wanted to know. ;)

Your takes on the fic prompts make me fall at your feet in worship. Therapist's case study! 1968! Hermione do-gooding with the dementors! The Death Eaters crying mercy after too much Xeno Lovegood! Brilliant.

Tee-hee! Thank you so much. My writing moods tend to follow my RL moods, and RL is really pleasant at the mo, so I'm in the mood for silly and fun.

10) Snape is so much more the Master Criminal Sethos sort than Emerson, but I thought that prompt had wicked potential.
I love Amelia Peabody.
