It's snowing again. Last time I posted an entry about snow, the power went out half an hour later, and it didn't come back on again for more than 12 hours. Better luck this time?

Yes, I'm fine. :) I was helping out the good people who run LiveJournal, and when one of the key volunteers ('genders') all but lost her Internet service for a while, I ended up with a lot more to do than I'd intended.
So, yeah, I haven't had much time to enjoy my own journal or Friends pages recently; it took me two weeks just to see this comment of yours. But I look forward to getting back to it some day.
Hey, happy birthday! You'll enjoy it, I bet, with so much there to see and do. I haven't spent a lot of time in London, but to me it feels like being at the center of the world. That may not be very logical, but I don't think it's mere ethnocentrism, either. I'm always pleased to see that you're making the most of your time there.
Take plenty more pictures before you let the Brits kick you out!

Thank you for the 'happy birthday'! I've had a great time here, I haven't done quite as much as previous trips, but I feel a lot more at home than I have before. I know what you mean by London feeling like the "center of the world".. it has such a rich history and draws so many people, not to mention it having influenced so much of the world in one way or another.
I think the only other city to rival it would be Paris, which I still haven't visited. One day.
As you've probably noticed I've been snapping away, I'm going to miss the digital cam! Maybe I can talk the fiance into letting me borrow it so I can take photos of Port Townsend and the surrounding area. *hope* :)

I see that IMDb users have given Kes a high rating and great reviews. The story hardly fills me with nostalgia for my days in northern England, but maybe I should watch it some time.
I notice that most of the IMDb reviews are not by Americans, but by people who would understand the Yorkshire dialect, and that's not surprising. What does surprise me is reading that "Ken Loach's movie was refused a London premier lest a Southern English audience didn't understand the Northern Barnsley accents." That was 30 years ago; I wonder if different parts of England understand each other any better these days?

Being French I have no idea about the accents. But I can say that I can't understand much of the regional English accents cos I'm not used by them. I don't think I could understand what they say in Kes if there wasn't the French subtitles. Maybe I would after watching the movie several times.
