Room Change

After leaving Patch standing by the statue, Dee retreated to May's room, where she had been temporarily living. She quickly gathered up her things--that were somewhat scattered about the room--into her arms and headed for her new room.

Patch waited for Dee to go get her things and then followed her into Danni's old room. He was sure he could tell what Dee was thinking, there was only one bed in this room.

Patch opened his mouth to try to say something helpful, finding himself stammering, no real words coming out.

"Um..." She turned to Patch, annoyed by the obvious blush that was adorning her features. Good thing the amount of make-up in pink hues made the blush look almost blended. She hoped he couldn't see it.

This moment of awkward silence was getting to her. If they were going to share a room, they were going to have to make things work.

"You can have the bed," she said quickly, breaking the silence. "I'll do all right on the floor."

Patch's face burned as he tried to speak his thoughts concerning the room, but failed. Finally Dee spoke and he was glad for the sound, until he realized what she was offering. "No....no, you...you can't! I'll sleep on the floor.... You deserve better than that...." Patch was obviously blushing furiously and no make-up could hide this. His face matched her hair in color. "Or um.... we could always.... if you want I mean...."

Since Patch had decided to take the floor, Dee tucked herself into bed. She lay quiet for a while, thinking to herself.

"Patch," she said softly, "you still awake?"
