Religion in Ethiopia is very interesting. The dominant religion is Orthodox (approx 59% i gather), to which until now I had had very little exposure. Fasting happens every Wednesday and Friday, but unlike Islam which actually means no eating, this involves eating no meat or dairy products (which means fish is ok, because they grow on trees ( Read more... )

I've had a taste of both worlds - my father is Greek Orthodox and my mother is a Romanian Jew. I was baptized Orthodox (my baptismal name is Fotini), but my mother eventually raised me in Judaism. However, I always went to church.

I am not surprised that things over there are very different in terms of religious differences being tolerated. I've never been to Ethiopia, but love the food.

I have no idea why my posting came up anonymous. But, the second one is from me...the half Greek/Romanian, raised as a Jew went to Orthodox church person. :D
